205 1.9 16v GTi Group A Rally Car - MI-16...Engine In...Pics

Hey all, me and brother Mark are starting rallying..He swapped his EK9 for this little gem..

205 1.6 GTI producing 158bhp on weber 45's and alot of headwork and lightening and balancing, also cammed..
LAD Engine (1 longmans and a Skip Brown engine as spares too)
Bilstein Coilovers on the front
Bilstein shocks on the back
All the usual stuff inside etc
Fuel lines inside the car
BE3 box with Gripper Plate Type LSD
Tonnes of spares, beams, wheels, tyres, brakes, droplinks, wishbones, hoses, gaskets, panels, bumpers, grills etc..

You name it, its got it pretty much..

Although its Mark's car, i started the the thread as i have the pics on my comp etc, i expect he will add his own stuff too, we will keep you all updated with progress etc..Will also be getting an onboard camera soon, you'll all be able to see what its like then..:)

Here's some pics i took tonight..More when i have time..:)

MJRallying 26th August 2008 00:24

Nice one mario its my car btw i love it!!

Carbs need tuning me thinks sticking abit maybe choke or need fine tuning

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 00:25

True, we'll sort it..;)

MJRallying 26th August 2008 00:25

Also changing little bits to tidy up like bumpers, std grille etc, i have sooo many bits will av a lil play.

Yates 26th August 2008 00:26

black wheels lower and smoke lights

ijoke

whats it go like then? how does it compare to the type r? speed wise?

have you two been out with your helmets on

tight left, followed by around about, 1st exit

you have rear light missing ;)

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 00:27

lol Yates..

Its abit quicker off the line than an EP3 Type R..4th and 5th they slightly and i mean slightly edge away..Not bad for a 1.6 8v..It fucking handles insanley tho..lol

MJRallying 26th August 2008 00:28

Needs some newer rubber got loads in garage!!

Yes 0-60 i say high 5's with very good launch would hope for 14 sec 1/4 miles but its built to a class spec for rallying aint a drag car, round a circuit watch and trax and you will see :P

Yates 26th August 2008 00:28

i have visions of you two, sat in bed rooms, just a wal between you, yet chattin on here...

i ment the ek9 lol

but in all fairness, the ep3 is a 2ltr lump, it should pull more 4th n 5th

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 00:31

Haha Yates..

Its about the same all round as the EK tbh..

MJRallying 26th August 2008 00:31

We are mate lol, yes ep3 cant out perform it anywhere other then motorway get to a corner or brake and oh dear lol

EK9 should be similar again but wont brake and handle as well!!

Its awesome yates best bit is i can do proper rallying now will be such a buzz!!!

Its not my everyday roadcar needs the carbs setting up bit better plus it drinks fuel!!

Sounds awesome tho :P

Yates 26th August 2008 00:44

u got an every day car? should of kept the xsi

im not at trax, trax is for girls

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 00:47

He sold the XSi to me..

He's gona be using a citroen ax 1.0 elation running 13's on steelies for work etc..lol..;)

Trax is for girls, he's just using it as abit of a tester for the car, learn how it handles at the limit etc..

Yates 26th August 2008 00:53

i know he sold it to u...

why i said should of kept it

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 00:54

True, but where he works, he has to leave the car on the road and it would prob get nicked tbh..Bit rough..:P lol

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 16:42

Tomorrow's Plans:

Aslong as the weather holds up and doesnt piss down i'll be cleaning/painting the engine bay. Its good condition etc as it is, but could be cleaner and there is some scratches etc that could do with touching up so will sort that tomorrow..Will put some pics up too aswell..:)

Thursday i'll tackle the interior..Tidy it up abit, give it a clean etc..Again, pics will be uploaded..

If your wondering why i'm doing most of the posting etc although its Mark's car, its because he's always working and i'm not working during the day so have time to do bits and bobs..Will also grab some pics of the spares too..

Cheers..

Karl 26th August 2008 16:50

Is nice,
do you not look back though and think..
I had a 2003 Scoob,
swapped for an R (or therabouts) reg Civic,
swapped for a D Reg 205?

Dont get me wrong though, car is nice!

Only a reflector there as I think the fog light is on the other side :D

looks really good. Is it set up as tarmac or gravel spec?
I keep eyeing up 1.6's as I have loads of spares. Got a straight cut gearbox just sitting around!
Whats the spec's of the Longmans and skip brown engines?

Yates 26th August 2008 16:50

someones pizza is gettin cold you cunt

i was going to ask do you plan to paint interior? just smarten it up a bit?

i notice rear bumpers not straight, obv being a rallye car its going to get knocks n that just wonderin if you planned on tidyin up a bit more?

is you going to get

markek9
MaRiO89

on the windows or your 'real' names?

i think forum names cos ur geeks

with the sponsors on, are you getting new ones? do you get money from them?

MaRiO89 26th August 2008 18:00

Karl - Mark can answer that..lol

Kam - Its Tarmac spec at the mo..Dont know all the details but has some lovely bilsteins and topmounts..:D

As for the specs of the other two engines..I dont know, Mark will have to answer..

Yates - We are getting our real names, no sponsers at the mo..Will do some events and see what happens..The inside has ben sprayed red, it just needs a clean..As for the bumpers..Will probs have a look but its not at the top of our list of things to do..:P

MJRallying 26th August 2008 18:21

Cheers guys it awesome shouldnt do it but just blatted down some lanes to test it!!

Couldnt resist!!

Now its being stripped to sort carbs :)

MJRallying 26th August 2008 21:39

Car is coming off road now to be fully stripped and tidied up for trax, it will be on stand if anyone wants to come and look!!

Also at castle combe rallyday, where im trying to obtain the old sponsers!!

Luke 26th August 2008 21:47

Saxp stand?

Looks nice, despite how much work has gone into it I still find it a lot of money.

MJRallying 26th August 2008 21:49

Thing is mate its hard to explain how much money has gone into it!!

Its a class winning car its worth what ever he wants to charge really!! With spares its worth easily what i paid.
You could mod a road car as much as you like and it will be worth x amount but competition cars is a diff league.

Group A Suspension etc......

Karl-I see your idea but i cant rally a std ek9, scooby was worth 7k which is what all this is worth.

Ocego_VTR 26th August 2008 21:51

tis nice but i will always prefer that mad scooby lol (just it was mental!)

Yates 26th August 2008 22:02

i dare say both them engines are worth a bit, then with all tyres and everything well worth it

MJRallying 26th August 2008 22:12

Yes the whole lot is worth a bomb yates!!

Does anyone know much about FIA stuff?? As according to next year all seats must be fia approved and they cant be any older then 5 years now the sticker on mine looks like 1999 which means i will need to change!!

Dont wanna sell the wrap arounds there lush as were 400 notes each :(

Colin 26th August 2008 22:55

Ive actually competed against this very car lol.

MJRallying 26th August 2008 22:59

Ahh rite sweet what car in??

Colin 26th August 2008 23:04

A mini. At the Emerald stages. It overtook us as we blew the engine up round the back of the circuit!

MJRallying 26th August 2008 23:07

Nice one you need french haha

Ryan 26th August 2008 23:11

if the regs say you have to have 5 year old seats max means they have to go for newer ones :P

MJRallying 26th August 2008 23:13

Yes ryan but mine aint marked as to when there made for some reason so perhaps i can cross out dec-04 and will do me for next season

Mrk1 27th August 2008 00:15

Looks awesome & spec sounds mad! Definately worth it especially if you're planning to take part in local rally events.

Surely the FIA regs will be really strict?!?!

Hopefully I'll spot this monster at Castle Combe Rally Day. :y:
More pics needed tbh.

landanimal 27th August 2008 00:22

nice 205 love the cars!

Mint-VTR 27th August 2008 01:38

Bet thats cool to drive, nice work!

MaRiO89 27th August 2008 01:47

If the seats are 1999 and they are only allowed to be 5 years old, then how has it been rallied recently? lol

The seats aren't that old anyways Mark..I'll have a proper look tomorrow..

MaRiO89 27th August 2008 12:25

Did a few bits to it today, touched up some area's of the engine bay with Hammerite and grabbed some pics of the coilovers etc..Also put the standard grill back on as it looks much better..Also took the numbers off the doors and the event stickers from the last rally..Tomorrow will be getting our names put on the windows too..

I have a few before and after shots of the painting and the grill..

Here's some pics anyways..

Old Grill:

Grill Off & Oil Cooler:

New/Standard Grill:

Engine bay before Painting:

After Paint:

Coilovers:

No rust anywhere under there..Just dirty and full of underseal..:D

Rear Damper:

Rear Interior:

Could do with abit of a clean..

Trumpets: ;)

Gona put another front bumper on at somepoint aswell as the current one has a abit missing on the Passenger side at the bottom..We have another red one, just a case of fitting it..

Thats about it for today, will be doing our names tomorrow and doing abit more tidying up inside etc..Will of course update the thread with pics etc..

Cheers..

Prickle 27th August 2008 12:41

They are in place of the std Throttle body..Along with the carb's..Hugely less restrictive inlet..

AlexB 27th August 2008 12:51

trumpets are the air intake for the carbs

just them then the throttle butterfly
a lot less restrictive than any induction kit lol!

EDIT: damn beat to it
