!!FOR SALE!!!....!!My Throttlebodied Turbo VTS Track car!!

Hi all, dont post up here much as bit new to this. doing something different with the car than usuall so thought id share with you good peeps. ive got a track vts that i use at combe all the time and its running a MTECH jenvey bodies conversoin with cat 708's and MTECH V4 standalone management. fot the past year the car performs awesome even in the wet!(ask SAMB) and surprising most cars on the track. BUT WANTED TO GET MY TEETH into summit over christmas so i decided to turbo it and retain the jenvey bodies with the 4 butterflies. so i had a custom alloy inlet plenum made and welded to the trumpets so as that all done and fitted and everything else plumbed in intercooler, hard pipes, turbo etc. Its on the brink of its maiden start up id post some pics that samB took other day to show how its getting on!. once its fired up it will be trailored to MTECH to get mapped again then hit the track. hope its of some interest. thanks peeps.chris

Will be cool to hear how this gets on !! You not worried about running no cambelt covers ?

You can upload pictures straight onto this thread by copying across the IMG code

adzvtr 28th December 2009 10:47

awsome m8, cant wait to see this up and running, i had this idea, but most just said its not worth it and will be difficult to map, keep us informed m8, engine bay does look awsome with the 2

Paul 28th December 2009 12:13

Alot of moneys gone into that engine :y:

I would definately get some cambelt covers on, if a stone gets stuck in there :o

There you go, copied some pictures over for you.

Jackman 28th December 2009 12:16

Very nice mate!

Seen it on another forum the other day and was impressed!

dannygti 28th December 2009 13:12

also seen it on the other forum....

have you got the full engine spec?
this is the most interesting little project for me at the min..

frankie 28th December 2009 13:16

looks very tasty mate.

are you in pewsey, the one near devizes?

joey_harrison 28th December 2009 14:25

very niceeee :)

Ben 28th December 2009 14:29

Nice :D Any videos?

VTSTomE 28th December 2009 14:34

Always chat about this with my mate boost and bodies! Awesome to see it getting done.

blocks85 28th December 2009 17:46

cheers for the help with all pics you swapped over paul, not down with that too much. if you wanna do more you welcome too.

In a answer to one answer above, yeah im from pewsey which is near devizes but me and a mate chris built the car in the farm workshop where i go shooting (hence the farm Workshop MOTORSPORT) stickers down the wings as thought it would be a laugh.

Thanks for the interest again, from what i can make out this conversion doesnt seem to have been done too often as most people do away with the butterflies so i wanted to give it ago and run both. ive got to fit the actuator, turbo, manifold and other bits tomorrow then when thats done it looks like its going to matt @ MTECH on thursday to be mapped.

This car has built on a super budget as id like to make people aware, me and chris have done everything apart from the bodies, mapping and management which was done at mtech. And they done me an absolute bargain offer on that lot so was too good to miss.

On the turbo side of things i bought a cheap 2nd hand kit off ebay where i used just the turbo, rs turbo intercooler and the exhaust flange and we made the rest up. we went to merlin motorsport and got all the samco joins for the intercooler, elbows for the down pipe and all other bits like oil feed, air intake pipe for turbo etc.

as money is tight i try to make this as cheap as possibe but reliable as pos so proof is gonna be in the pudding when it is mapped to how it is going to run, ive ran the last 4 track days at combe with the throttle body set up and after 500 odd miles at flat out on the red line the car has been perfect and not missed a beat as the mapping was perfect!! along the way the sax holds it own, 340hp evo 6 which my mate rich has we were stalemate round combe for 15laps solid after we decided to go in as it was gonna end in tears how hard we were pushing!!

Rough spec so far as what i can remember-

saxo vts j4 16v engine
jenvey throttle bodies
with custom alloy inlet plenum welded to trumpets
garrett t25 turbo
rs turbo intercooler in bumper
bleed valve
custom hard intercooler piping with samco joins
mocal oil cooler in bumper
cat cams 708's
MTECH V4 stand alone engine management
Dell laptop wired to ecu for display of engine gauges
adjustable fuel pressure reg
alloy strut brace

fully stripped out
no dash
bucket seats
haransses
full roll cage
battery reloctaed in boot in battery box
full spoox motorsport perspex windows
lowered spax suspension
mvk alloys with toyo r888's
ebs grooved and drilled discs
red stuff pads all round
goodridge braided hoses
5.1 brake fluid

prob missed other bits but thats all i can remember off my head

good old sax, love her!!

thanks again for time to read this peeps, if anyone wants to know anything ill be more that happy to answer any questions!!

cheers chris

Jay_ 28th December 2009 17:52

that looks sweet!!

Mathias 28th December 2009 19:32

Very impressive mate, who made your inlet?

blackie_2k5 28th December 2009 19:37

looks awesome mate, you still runinng the 708's with the turbo though? turbo cams not be a better idea..image youll get some overlapping with that profile.

gavin_t 28th December 2009 19:48

Think you was at the september action day at coombe wasnt you?

Remember seeing the car out there iirc :)

AndySAXO 28th December 2009 20:10

708's make a half decent boost cam unless you are using lots of boost and then you will get blow through.. andy l's old S/C vts is running 310bhp@wheels with them in.

car looks awesome mate, im VERY keen on seeing the result and the noise. please put some vids up once done.
im guessing that you will be aiming for anything over 200bhp with this low boost setup?

what tyres are you using and do you have an lsd?

blackie_2k5 28th December 2009 22:30

is that so...sort of the same thing with bp285's i know theyre quite good up till a certain point, plus one on the vids it loos like a very well done car.

any 708/ph3/bp285/pt52 will be good for boost up until a point but i wouldnt worry about that unless you run serious boost... if you have got good sparking system it will help.

CaldzieVTR 28th December 2009 23:45

that engine bay looks awsome

JamesR 28th December 2009 23:50

Not too many out there running TBs aswell as a Turbo. Very interesting car, will be keeping a eye on this :)

What power is it putting out mate...?

I had the inlet made by a metal fabricator at a place called adage engineering for £150 in coate near devizes in wiltshire, i made a full size mock up out of mdf with everything that i wanted in respect to holes for trumpets and angles etc as it has to clear the bulk head. then he made it and welded it in 4 hours and it was done. bolted it all to the bodies and it fits pefectly.

before the turbo and bits were put on it was doing 150bhp, bear in mind it has no head work or nothing which it could do with to see more power but was gonna go down that road when it breaks as i would have to take it apart anyway. time isnt on my side to take it apart all the time.

yeah that was me at the summer action day, im always up there on those days but mainly bhp track days open pit days as you can stay out there for as long as you like, we done a 45min session las time where i nearlly 3/4 tank of fuel. the sax loved that!

The point about the cams makes sense, as it built on a budget its gonna be a case of getting it on the rollers when its mapped and see what it needs, if it needs different cams, injectors etc ill have to get them but i aint prepared to go throw £££££'s at it as it a fun track car. i gonna see how it is when its mapped then get anything its needs after that. im prepared to sacrifice some power rather than spending dollar at the mo as wanna get it running, the car does well anyway with the power it had around the track so this is a experiment/learnig curve too see if we can get the bodies/turbo to work together.

:y:

blocks85 29th December 2009 09:49

Thanks for everyones help and input, if you feel you can advise/point me in the right direction some more in regards what to do or do best ill be more than happy to listen.

thanks chris

i got some of the white window stickers left bud, 6 i think if you interested as we all got them on our cars when we goto tracks as me and chris help mend a few of our our mates scoobs and other cars. im running ebc grooved and drilled with red stuff all round, the cars so light so it stops well. the whole car is cut to pieces inside so it ways very little.

Chris_429 29th December 2009 10:26

That's awesome - should go a fair bit!

Will be keeping an eye on this.

frankie 29th December 2009 10:28

whens it going to mtech for mapping?

might come up for a butchers if you dont mind, their only up the road, and would be great to see this beast

rushy_23 29th December 2009 10:34

Damn!

Car looks to be a great spec, interior is VERY minimalistic. What sort of power does the car make? Hard to get the power down?

Sean_VTS 29th December 2009 10:46

Looks like an incredible build tbh!

Really impressed!!!

AndySAXO 29th December 2009 12:09

what suspension set up are you running?

andy

AndySAXO 29th December 2009 12:13

edit didnt see your post with the spec, how does the spax work on the track, i was using apex and i didnt like them on the track, loving the intertior though! :y:

bet it very very light like that, have you have on a weight brigde or osmething to find the wieght?

but still dont like the look of the management like that seem alittle thrown together with the loom like that :S

but everything else looks very nice :A:

andy

auds 29th December 2009 12:24

Looks awesome :)

Have you heard of Martin Bowyer, he does mapping etc and is brilliant too, although a little slow lol!!

The spax seem to be good to be fair for what they cost, if anything they feel e little soft but that is good as castle combe is very bumpy and contorey so it allows the suspension to articulate and the wheels to grip even on the bumpy stuff.

The loom adapter is really good to be honest, a lot better that a lot of of the ones i have seen, the main thing is that its out of that way of the cambelt and as its just a click together loom converter it takes seconds to take apart and remove if i need to take it out of the car. For the money the MTECH V4ecu and loom adapter is an absolute bargain, with it being a standalone management ive only got to ring matt and pop the car down and he maps it to anything straight away that i have changed on the engine.

I know some peolpe in the past have had some problems with MTECH but the person that was causing the grief down there has been sacked, im going on my dealings with them and there work for me has been spot on as the car performs perfectly evertime.

AndySAXO 29th December 2009 16:37

yer i am running the predator which is a driect plug and play and doesnt have that loom off it,

what software do they use? there own? or is a MS or other type of software?

where are they based?

andy

AndySAXO 29th December 2009 16:38

sorry if this sound rude but how much was it for the ecu?

many thanks

andy
