stevie_m progress... Or lack of it.

Tonight I bought a X reg VTR Two Tone 98bhp

78,200 miles showing

The inside of the car looks clean and tidy but needs a new gaiter and gear knob (current is wobbily... already got replacements)

Noticed that the radiator is goosed ... luckily got it home without any warning lights or overheating showing on the dash.
Was also lucky that is was freezing tonight so hopefully no damage has been done to the head... damage was done ... but fixed now.

But that didn't stop the wife giving me I told you so face

The exterior of the car is looking quiet good apart from a small piece of bubbling on the passenger door about an inch or so square

Pictures are here post #27

Don't worry I shall been busy sorting out the problem with the radiator and then bleeding the system because it was overheating.

Pictures up tomorrow

Way ahead of you guys that's the plan.

Still for some strange reason it is overheating not majorly but enough to make me think the thermostat might be gooses also. Haven't had it touch the top marker for the heating but had to stop a few times to let it cool down for a minute.

Gonna phone my local garage and get him to flush the system and giv the thermostat a once over. Just to be on the safe side. Rather pay £50 for a service & flush out rather than for a new VTR engine.

joe333 14th February 2010 13:19

same here always felt they looked that little bit different.

Really need to sort out the rust / bubbling on the passenger door. Once that's done I can give it a good detailing and make it shine.

gonna be lowered about 35 > 40 mm. Anthracite VTS wheels, 106gti leathers, retrim the cards in alcantara. Anthracite strut brace.

Also depending on how bad the damage is the engine might come out and a new on put in. Also thinking about VTS dials for a oil pressure gauge.

------
sorry about the lack of pictures at the moment guys, can't take it anywhere for a photoshoot.

I know its almost been a year ...

Strut Brace has been started but I'm out of the workshop for atleast two days this week. Got all the materials in place now ... made the plates for the top of towers. (would have prob finished it if I was able to take the saxo to the workshop).

Oh yes the manifold ;) Once I finish that and others see the job I think I will have an order or two.

I'm thinking that I'm gonna go down the V-Band clamp route ... No exhaust cement needed and only one nut to undo at each end of a pipe.

Those will look the nuts ... but I do like the C2 VTS aswell decisions decisions..

luke1988 21st February 2010 20:32

looks nice mate, and your plans sound pretty good too!

stevie_m 24th February 2010 20:27

Fabrication of Strut Brace

I decided a while ago that I would be making my own Strut Brace. Personally don't think that it will be that hard to make or assemble. All materials will be stainless steel.

disks for the top of the towers

As you can see the discs now been drilled...

Need to move the fuel cut off switch. The brace is going to be following the firewall.

---———---

Basically put this idea in the bin because it looked shit.

Mike_420 24th February 2010 20:30

nice one, it'll be good to see how it turns out.

stevie_m 7th March 2010 20:12

Took me about 20 minutes to get the old Citroen headunit out and the other one in ...

Poor little Paxo has a bad rash !

Gonna give the Paxo a right good clean and get some pictures up in the next few days ..

Mike_420 7th March 2010 21:41

how did the strut brace turn out or is it still a working progress?

It's an ongoing process ... just keep looking at post #23. I'm going to use it to show the full fabrication.

Anyway here are some long awaited pictures... I know needs a wash and also needs lowered.

And a little bit of idling

If anyone wants to see the full album click here, I just don't want to post all the pictures I took that day.

adam_baker 2nd April 2010 16:15

I know I'm thinking about doing it myself.

Whats This ...
So I took the plunge and bought some VTS wheels, but decided they needed a little extra so I ended up getting them painted.

These were painted but they weren't lacquered...

So here they are lacquered...

Still got one to sort but these will soon be on the 'R'

stormin 6th April 2010 11:50

Thanks I'm trying my best, right now putting the things that are wrong with the car right. That is a fair few jobs itself ...

next up is the problem with the passenger door, MOT & inside the driver door (problems with electric windows and interior)

stevie_m 8th April 2010 22:11

Today's Update

Decided to pamper the R so I placed some orders to Rubbish Boy's, CYC...

Here is what I have bought so far

. Sonus "Wunder drying towels"
. Dodo Juice Born Slippy
. Dodo Juice Red Mist
. Dodo Juice Supernatural Shampoo
. Rubbish Boys Detailing Clay
. Dodo Juice Purple Haze
. Dodo Juice Fantastic Fur Buffing cloth
. Yeti Fist wash mitt
. Poorboys Natural Look Dressing
. Megs All Purpose Cleaner
. Various Brushes

All I need now is two 20L buckets, one with a grit guard. Powerwasher & Snow Foam Lance, wheel sealant, Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite and I'm thinking Black Wow or something for the exterior trim

If you feel I'm missing anything in my detailing equipment please let me know

scottyGSI 8th April 2010 22:53

The wheels are going to trasform this car.

Love the two tones :y:

stevie_m 9th April 2010 15:53

Hoping so just waiting for Drew to send a txt so I can pick the last one up. I think I'm looking at next weekend for the wheels to go on...

Thanks for the jack Scotty if I didn't get that I wouldn't be doing anything with the wheels.

Trust me when I say I wish it was finished myself but I need to be in the workshop for me to finish it. Some of the materials are still stashed away.

Looks good mate, hate those old wheels, new ones look nice though.

Thought two-tone was VTS only. Looks nice mate. Hope you get the rust sorted.

yeah the old wheels are proper gash ! Pretty sure I've seen more VTS Two Tone's than I have VTR's.

The rust will hopefully be gone by the end of the month, getting quotes right now. The main jobs for this month is the exhaust and the rust.
