Saxo doesn't pop

Hi guys, just bought my first saxo. Its a 2002 VTR. She has a supersprint manifold and a full magnex system. I wouldn't mind the odd pop or bang now and again, but I haven't heard anything of such! Is the cat in the standard mani or what way does it work on these?

Thanks

RAFkev 4th August 2010 18:17

Hiya mate.

The cat in a Vtr is in the manifold.

As I understand it, Saxo's that pop are down to an overfueling problem. But it's usually left because it sounds good.

If you get it mapped, the ecu can be configured to make it pop.

Mk1 is under car
Mk2 is in mani

does the magnex centerpipe have a silencer??

2002 = mk2 sam! ;)

lwigmore 4th August 2010 18:53

if he's said its got a supersprint manifold, then it won't have a CAT on it??

stokesy 4th August 2010 18:54

flaming is down to over fuelling, popping is from the back pressure or something along those lines i beleive.. with a full straight through system should ge a few pops and bangs..
get a supersprint race section and 2" backox, had that on my vtr with supersprit mani, and it sounded awesome and popped and banged loads

lwigmore 4th August 2010 18:59

i agree with jamie, supersprint centre pipe is needed, i have one on my VTS with a piper backbox and that pops and bangs like no tomorrow as stokesy can confirm ;)

RAFkev 4th August 2010 19:06

Hmmm

Maybe it's just a supersprint thing.

I have straight through magnex and get no popping.

The guy who mapped my car said he can make it pop by tweaking the map. Can't remember why or how though.

H-Unwin 4th August 2010 19:24

On my VTR I have standard mani magnex decat and cat back it's reali quiet and when going flat in 3rd then changing to second it makes a lil pop. Nothing big just a noticeable one :P

stokesy 4th August 2010 19:47

maybe its the magnex.. most othr systems seem to pop no problem..
and as lee said above, his superspriint mani and race section with the piper backbox pops and bangs like mad.. soudnd aweosme

Fair enough, i miss read it :(

RachBabyX 4th August 2010 19:58

mine pops now and then sounds nice though :) got vtr manifold on and a savage backbox on a 1.1 :)

wicked-vtr 4th August 2010 20:03

Ive Got a btb 4-1 mani and a full btb 2.5" system, not heard any pops out of it, mabie im not driving it right lol

GJF47 4th August 2010 20:44

Get a few pops and bangs on mine when I change down and its around 2k revs. Thats with Longlife cat back system and standard manifold.

Matty1991 4th August 2010 22:00

God knows, must just be magnex for ya lol! Can you map the standard ecu on saxo's or is it a new ecu needed ?

Krys_23 4th August 2010 22:09

Magnex are supposed to be quiet until you open the taps up anyway, a full 2" supersprint would make it pop like a mad man.

Junaid 4th August 2010 22:12

how long has the full exhaust system been on for?
mine started popping after a few weeks and now pops all the time

Liam_ 4th August 2010 22:13

I had a VTR with Supersprint mani and Magnex single box system - no pops or bangs. Whack a Piper or Supersprint exhaust on and it probably will.

stokesy 4th August 2010 22:17

remap the standard ecu will be completely pointless and waste of money for just an exhaust system to try and get it to pop, tbf itd probs decrease the chance of it popping..
imo sell up and get a new system :y:

french_baguette 4th August 2010 22:18

My magnex only pops when you blip the throttle at high RPM, and when upshifting.

My magnex is in no way quiet. Even idling! And sitting at 70 on the motorway is not pleasant!

laberridge 5th August 2010 00:29

westy - raceland 4-2-1, magnex decat, stainless center (unknown make), piper backbox, no pops, raspy as fuke if drop your foot off accelrator at 5k+ revs

bluenotesmiley 5th August 2010 00:41

My Magnex used to gurgle loads about 3.5k revs IIRC. If not it was 2.5k, but it used to gurgle loads, no pops and bangs though. SuperSprint system with 3" Piper backbox used to pop loads about 4k revs and on the engine run-off but when changing to PH3s and map it didn't pop or bang at all, even after getting bodies mapped onto it. Saying that it might be doing it but might not hear it over the bodies :)

Matty1991 5th August 2010 00:55

A few pops wouldn't go a miss but i'm getting nothing on this magnex system :(

bluenotesmiley 5th August 2010 01:11

The Magnex systems are pretty quiet. Mine never made much noise other then the usual exhaust drone/noise lol.

If you want pop try getting a SuperSprint Race centre section and cutting it to fit the sleeved fitment on the Magnex as this would then loose the centre silencer you have on the current Magnex system.

Fitting this centre section to my cousins car as opposed to the standard centre section made a big difference to his VTR. It went from just exhaust noise to popping a fair bit although this was with a 3.5" Piper rear silencer I would imagine it would act in a similar fashion.

nicole_ 5th August 2010 10:06

ive got a mij custom exhuast but i need the standard 1.1 backbox now, bf was gunna put a furio centre pipe on to keep it decat and told me its still gunna pop and be noisy, im not convinced, anyone confirm?

stokesy 5th August 2010 10:15

is it standard mani nicole?
and it might, but a furio centre section snt going to be great, and a 1.1 backbox gunna lower the odds even more imo. i could be wrong, but i dont think it will with that backbox

nicole_ 5th August 2010 10:18

i thought with a supersprint centre pipe i have slightly more chance lol,
yeh its standard mani and mk1, so decats it.
wanna keep my custom one but i need a hidden backbox :(

stokesy 5th August 2010 10:57

well benjee off here has standard mk1 mani and is borrowing my supersprint centre section and 2" backbox and thats popping a fair bit and a very nice noise..
maybe try something different.. i saw a rally with the exhaust coming out of the rear 1/4 just infront of the wheel.. would be good for your kinda theme as would be different, then you can have whatever backbox..
just an idea

jeffchiz 5th August 2010 11:55

ive got a supersprint center section with standard mani and back box and it does pop from time to time and i have had 2 flames come out over the 6 or so months or owning it but exhaust systems need time to bed in it will probably pop more over time mine has only just started doing it

stokesy 5th August 2010 11:57

shush u, u making me sound wrong lol :P..
i still rekon relocate where the backbox comes out off..
side exit ftw!! will be good on yours or nicoles theme :y:

nicole_ 5th August 2010 11:58

yeh ive considered it before, but with the vtec going in i need a custom exhuast made up, so no point getting one done yet :)

lmao ill look in to it :P

stokesy 5th August 2010 12:00

saw it on a bianca rallye looked awesome!!
and yea nicole look into it when the vtec goes in :y:

nicole_ 5th August 2010 12:03

with such a short exhuast though i can imagine it sounds quite different and would effect performance, i dunno, im abit of a noob  but might just get a custom hidden one done as its more subtle then, and itll have its vtec purrrrr

Steve 5th August 2010 12:07

get an extra 8valves ;)

stokesy 5th August 2010 12:13

nah dont think itll effect it that much.. spesh not if it still a straight through..
just a though, would be good for the euro kinda theme you got going, they tend to go for 'different' lol..

nicole_ 5th August 2010 12:22

shh mines not euro, shes cleaned :p

stokesy 5th August 2010 12:26

well its a grogeous car either way, shame its a mk1 though :n: :P hehe

nicole_ 5th August 2010 12:26
