Ed's 1.1 16v- Dead in a cloud of smoke.

Well, Better late than never.

Bought this as a project to keep me occupied until I go back to College.
Got it off a Friend who...Crashed it, Yes. Resulting in Damage to the Front end.

My main aim is to get it roadworthy again and then in sometime, Maybe make it a VT rep..or may just keep it Ratty. :)

First thing to do is get the Slam panel, Ns wing and Bonnet etc on.

Then paint those in Matt black/chalboard paint.
Depending how those come out, I'll do the rest of the car the same.

I no this Wing is fixed on properly yet, Just sizing it all up to see whats what. :D

Slam Panel loosely fitted :)

Bonnet-Partially prepped.

Paint..

The halfwits sent me this one opened...The joys I had when I opened the box.

Could someone help me though...Im stuck on what the wire/brown clip is for..Everything else is there and Connected..im stuck on this though :geek:

Also, whats this? it was in a box of bolts and bits and i've no idea...

Thanks, Thats all for today anyway.. Must get to work!
Ed.

MunkyBoy 18th August 2010 15:51

Good luck on the blackboard! How are you applying it? You've pretty much got it at the stage I had after my crash! If you need any help with the blackboard, PM me - I've just done it!

As for the last pictures, Have I not seen something like that on the back of the standard lights?

ed-bradley 18th August 2010 16:00

Thanks, Deffinatly gonna need it! :)
Erm, Was just gonna go with Rolling it on..but not 100% sure on what Prepping I should do.. Like with Primer. Not sure whether to prime it or not, as Ive never used Tinned paint before. But Im assuming I should use primer.

Cheers for that last bit of info, Im gonna go for a Root around in a minute and see if I can shed any light on what its for. :D

Thanks.

RachBabyX 18th August 2010 16:13

dont make it into a vt rep please restore it back to a gorgeous flatarch :)

MunkyBoy 18th August 2010 16:17

It might not be the light! Just remember seeing something that looked like it.

I primed the car just with normal matt paint from a spray tin, and then rollered the paint on. Remember. THIN coats! Otherwise it goes horrible.

So very thin coats, and just keep rolling and it will come out nice, fill in the small details with a small paintbrush, then rub down any imperfections and re-reroller the car with a final coat. Walah!

Its all about the VT Rep, I do love mine :)

ed-bradley 18th August 2010 21:29

Cheers man, Will do!

Iye, I had a root around and theres one on the back of the Old headlight. so Im guessing its the one from the smashed one.

Only thing is though, the new headlights I got dont have them on..Got some other contraption instead :?

Hmm ahh well.

sam2kk8 18th August 2010 22:09

just out of interest....how much did you pay your mate for this?

MunkyBoy 18th August 2010 22:50

Ahh, glad we worked out the mystery contraption!

I thought try were the motor adjustors for the lights? Maybe they had different models of the adjustors...

I'll be interested to see how this turns out! I'm only a pm away if you need a hand.

Luke-saxo 18th August 2010 22:54

the brown block in second pic looks like the headlight adjuster on mine but mines black should be the same thing :)

ex-tro 18th August 2010 22:54

Paid £80 for it  So far I've spent about £100 on parts and Paint etc.
So not to bad tbh. Plus It had 2 New Kumho's on the front a couple of days before you Crashed it and a Few other things. Pretty chuffed with it. :)

Cheers for that link mate, Will have to investigate further into what it is and whats not working etc.

Haha Yeah, was actually sort of depressed when i found out it was only a headlight adjuster, was hoping for it to be something cooler. Ahh well. :D

Yeah im sort of not sure on how its all gonna turn out, But yeah..will probably be getting in contact with you soon for some tips and help no doubt:y:

jeffchiz 19th August 2010 01:31

its for the power steering/blowers/rear demister, you have to link the two red wires together if these three stop working

ed-bradley 19th August 2010 02:02

Ahh cheers, just read up on all that from the Link Sam pasyed (Nice one)

Im guessing mines been done at somepoint as I couldn't see any stray wires anywhere. Will have a better look in the Morning.

Thanks so far everyone! :D

ed-bradley 21st August 2010 01:25

Right, Well got a Bit more done today.

Got the Bonnet on, Wing and Slam panel on Correctly and Re-routed the Wiring for the Headlights etc on that side. Will get Pics up in the morning.

Im having a Slight problem though with the Wipers- they're not Working at all, Nor are the Washer jets etc. Is there a relay that should be there for them. I've tried searching for a Diagram for them but can't seem to find anything. If anyone can help :)

Other than that, its coming along Pretty sweet. :D

chinkostu 21st August 2010 12:39

Whereabouts in cheshire are you mate? As for the wipers, heres relays under the dash, and fuses. Got a haynes?

ed-bradley 21st August 2010 15:25

Im Macclesfield, Well the edge of it anyway.. Just at the Start of the Cat and Fiddle. :D

Yeah Ive been trauling through them all morning and still no joy. Ahh well, I'll get to the bottom of it :)

bald24 21st August 2010 15:48

That box you had is the motor for adjusting the headlight angle mate :)

PSPDan 21st August 2010 16:14

Looks really nice mate.

ed-bradley 2nd September 2010 17:15

Right, Its been a while. :)

Bit of an Update- Pics will be up tomorrow or saturday as my Bro has had my camera for a couple of weeks.

All the Body work is on and Roughly lined up, Both front wings and the bonnet are painted in Chalkboard paint. And everythings wired up and working, bar the Wipers. Which im still baffled on. :/

Anyway, Waiting on a set of new pads, then going to order Discs when i Get paid tomorrow :D
But, Ive seen a couple of sets for the same price basically But they're both different sizes, according to the Spec.

One pair are - 238mm
the other are - 247mm

I've no idea which to get, would anyone care to enlighten me? They're for the 3 stud Hub aswell if that helps. Obviously I want bigger brakes, but will the 247mm ones fit without changing the Calipers and pads etc.
Or is the 247mm listing wrong?

Cheers, Ed.

ed-bradley 8th September 2010 20:57

Update on pics :D

Front end is now Chalked up, Now to do the rest when I get chance. And then to Vinyl the roof a Nice vibrant colour :D

Still cant get them damn wipers or washers working though. 'Tis becoming a pain!

Started to strip it out now also. Waiting for a few bits to arrive, like my Vt Kit and 60mm lowering springs...Which should be fun. Then need to source a front bumper :)

Couple of mates messed about on the Bonnet earlier..

ed-bradley 8th September 2010 20:59

Edit *

I Did the Multi-coloured doodle on the right. Yes im Cool.
In the top left is a Whopping cock..yes my mate has issues.

chinkostu 10th September 2010 07:27

just get around your washer jets ;)

it would be easier to take the bonnet off and paint it. along as you have someone to help (i got hit on the head last time lol)

MunkyBoy 10th September 2010 09:23

You need thinner coats on the chalkboard to stop those lines you are getting mate.

And you need to either roll or spray in opposite directions to get a decent finish :)

Apart from that, its looking good! Love the multicoloured drawing :P

ed-bradley 14th September 2010 02:36

Yeah, I keep meaning to do it properly. Haven't really had much chance recently for painting..Although I've had enough to Feck about once more with Chalk. :D Im off college until thursday so if i get chance I'll get the rest of the car done, and take down the exisiting paint abit to get it a tad smoother.

Please excust the "2K11" on the grill..my mates are uneducated. :)

Yeah the Bonnet was the 1st thing I did..so I wasn't expecting a decent finish  It needs to be Done again anyway so i can sand it back again and get it ok..Fingers crossed.

The wings have come out quite good though, theres no lines or streaks but need to be 'Wet and dryed' abit as they're quite rough.

Still, up to date..Im quite chuffed with myself.

Bargainzzzzzz :D

ed-bradley 25th October 2010 20:37

Update...Finally.
Been busy with starting the VT transformation.

Rear bumper on.

Side Tiger sealed on, and supported with In-penetrable tape.

Strategically placing the door trim on..:D

Oh smoooth..

Quite pleased so far :)

Lfs rear trim on.

Sneaky bit of SaxP sticker there.

That exhaust void will soon be filled with something, No idea what yet but still..yeah

thats Ricky, Big thanks to him for lending me his angle grinder.

Had to let him have a play with the Chalk for his help. :)

Ricky's Polo, and Hehirzy's Golf

Dave and Ricky, at-least they were entertained while I slaved away with the Tiger seal.

Found some Metallic green paint with glitter/sparkly stuff in..so had a play..Actually looks pretty good in the sunlight.

Lol, went to Pets and Home and saw this little dude chilling. I lolled.

Thats it for now, Will have the rest on at the weekend, im away until then :D

Thanks, Ed.

saxo-dude-16v 25th October 2010 21:16

your car is coming along well mate, i say do the whole car in that green paint or go for a two tone combo with green and some other colour, also i like your last pic and comment lol :p

ed-bradley 25th October 2010 21:47

Cheers mate, Appreciate that alot :)

Ahh , i've been thinking about doing something with that Green paint.. not sure though, Roof and wheel lips maybe :s

Definitely doing a Two tone theme though. Still undecided on the colour, Something bright and different is a must though, Ideally I wanted to do it Orange..but that would just be copying MunkyBoy's which is against all laws.

Hmm, Decisions.. :D

saxo-dude-16v 25th October 2010 21:51

loads of dif combs you could do for two tones like:

black/red

green/purple

black/blue

orange/yellow

cant do blue and blue though, thats my :p

ed-bradley 9th November 2010 01:17

Right, Got myself a couple of days of this week so gonna get on with the rest of the Kit, My front bumper should be here tomorrow along with new plugs, filters, Oil, Discs, tow strap etc.

Next thing on the list is Calipers so it'll be mobile again :D

Having thoughts about lowering it, But ideally would like to do a 4 stud conversion with Vtr/s struts and the rear beam and brakes. With replacing the complete front struts...Im guessing im going to need Vtr/s complete drive shafts to as the bearings are different i believe?

I did a quick search, but couldn't really find anything that could help..May not have looked hard enough Haha.

If any one could help me on this, i'd be really grateful :D

More pics will be up during the week.
Thanks, Ed.

Aww! Thats so sweet :)

Your seriously going to need to lower it, when I put my kit on my flattie - It made it stupidly high because of grinding the rear arches! I didn't think it looked horrendous, till I looked back!

I love that green paint, deffo need to get that in somewhere!

Its coming along really well.

kevin37 9th November 2010 11:20

i liked the chalk board effect you had going there was pretty cool idea

ed-bradley 9th November 2010 16:08

Yeah, Don't worry..Its getting lowered no matter what :D

Just wanted to do the 4 stud conversion, so I'd had a larger choice in wheels I could put on it..at the moment the only ones I can find and that I like are the Compomotive Mo's, but cost twice as much as the car Haha.

Some bits arrived today while I was out, Mainly servicing parts and a TRS Tow strap

Still deciding on colour combinations, I wouldn't mind Black & green tbh, But ahh well..Can always change the colour :)

MunkyBoy 9th November 2010 16:20

I have that exact tow strap :)

I love the look of them out of the front :) 4 Stud conversion, and standard R wheels are the best mix! Then colourrrr code. Wheels would look amazing in that flakey green :)

callows93 9th November 2010 16:54

I am looking forward to see this finished good work so far keep it up :y:

ed-bradley 9th November 2010 16:54

Yeah, Im still thinking whether to use that green, or a lime green shade.

Was hoping to get the front arches on today aswell, but a Cinema trip was far more appealing than working in these freezing temperatures! Still, ive got tomorrow and thursday to hopefully get it all done..if the bumper arrives that is anyway :D

Cheers man, Thanks alot.. Im hoping to have it all pretty much done by the end of december, but want the rest of the VT kit and for it to be painted within the next week or so before the weather really turns as its already started snowing at my work which is only 7 miles away :panic: Haha

But yeah, hoping to have the 4 stud conversion and a Vtr/vts rear beam on the back by mid december.

I'll keep you all posted :y:
