87 CS, Mk3 facelift (new picks)! vts-turbo!

Small bit of history.. i baught the 180 back in october with the plan to go to the nurburgring wich i did quite a few hicups on the way, but non the less really enjoyed driving the turbo'd vts estimated power was about 170-180 bhp.

Now just befor i went to the ring i had the car fully checked over and also a full service, this showed up some small problems to be sorted but also that under the imaculate paint work there was quite alot of rust.. enough to fail an MOT with and this was after i had the large patch on the rear delt with.

so as my other thread on weather to reshell it with my other vts shell that is what i will be doing with some added parts allong the way.. :p

over the last few weeks i been buying up some parts ready for the reshell ill let the picks do the talking as i do like to type away..

Are u going for a mk2 front end a full conversion

AL3X_ 7th March 2011 00:54

Which is the rusty shell then mate?

Looking good anyhow.

blackie_2k5 7th March 2011 01:04

nice plans, glad your going ahead.... full steam ahead by the looks of it, but change the title mate, re-shell means no more saxo 180, maybe re incarnation of saxo 180, but very little of the oringinal remains as it stands

sunderz's forged vts turbo.... (add your project title here) :y:

SunderZ 7th March 2011 01:09

yeah will be changing it when work actually starts :) i'e this week hopefully..

not sure on Mk1 or Mk2..dependant on a very 1 off mod i'm planning but that will all be revealed when i start tinkering this week.

the orange wheeled 180 fella thats why i'm taking all the original bits off it and using them on my caged one..

blackie_2k5 7th March 2011 01:28

i know mate, but this is the time you can put your stamp on it, its no longer 180, its a vts turbo built by sunderz :y:

go for mk2 mate, front end is so much better, NEVER liked mk1s till i bought one lol, but it has to be in the right colour and black doesnt go IMO, black mk2 FTW :D

DanViner 7th March 2011 01:37

Black mk2 with smoked headlights would set the from off really well then a sneaky inter cooler in the bigmouth

Ooooooh I can't wait lol

sn3ddon 7th March 2011 07:43

than inlet looks minted

SunderZ 8th March 2011 18:52

started on the new shell today little bit of work some small surface rust removal just to clean it all up and cutting to fit parts..

spot the diference...

Chris

dannygti 8th March 2011 18:58

great updates here chris,

just to let you know, with those cams/headwork solid lifter etc and the gt17 turbo wont be the best match in the world, that turbo wont be able to hold power much more than 6k where the cams/headwork etc will shift power up the revs and will more than likey work well over 7k... if i were you, whilst you are changing a lot of things id get the manifold modified and a better suited turbo on order :)

dannygti 8th March 2011 18:59

oh, and make sure the ecu you are using supports 8 injectors

dannygti 8th March 2011 19:01

sorry mate, just noticed you are going to source a gt28r later on... what are you going to be using the car for? only reason i ask is there maybe a couple of turbos that will complement your spec if its a track car.

craig180 8th March 2011 19:01

Glad to see you're making use of bits if both cars. Sorry to hear about the rust issues but this shell is the perfect base for YOUR new project

Please change your name to sunderz250 ;)

SunderZ 8th March 2011 19:11

got one :D

yeah just figuring out best combination/way round to do stuff...drop the 180 angine in to get through an mot etc then sell that engine as a package with manifold turbo etc... and use that money to get a DP manifold and downpipe... but got alot to do first plumb in fuel lines and brakelines etc..etc.. but started the work. will probs swap the suspention over tomoz and drop fuel tank and rear beam off tomoz and start measuring up the braided lines etc..

Ah I see, weird how a mk2 can be so much rustier than the older mk1

May sound like a noobish question, but what does the 180 mean?

MartinDines 8th March 2011 19:48

The fuelling setup is carporn

SunderZ 8th March 2011 19:49

the origional owner was saxo180 and so thats what the orange wheel'd car got known as so easiest to name it that... but as been said as work progresses it will have a new name and will be named when i get my private plate on it :D

AL3X_ 8th March 2011 20:07

Ahh think I've actually got a pic of it on my PC of it at a show with sax 180 on the plate or something....yeh I do...can post it up if you want it but I got it off this site anyway.

Will be interesting to see how you do this one :y:

SunderZ 8th March 2011 20:58

can post it in this thread if you want fella :)

bit of an update sepnt the last few days working on the car('s) few problems encountered and some things running really smoothly..

got the Hi-Specs swapped over.. and also trial fitted my new wheels

think the wheels look great and when refurbed will look amazing with my new front end.

Non PAS stearing rack trail fitted and realised the main shaft out, connecting to the stearing column is too short so going to have to fire up the lathe and machine a new shaft or summot might do a guide for people encountering this in the future Non PAS in black

and intercooler rad combo fully fitted

and Finally engine is 90% built up...new cam covers new gaskets turbo fitted but changine :p and inlet fitted so far

and last my assistants :A:

more to come!

regards

chris

SunderZ 10th April 2011 21:21

that is all...

craig180 10th April 2011 21:25

Pah! Citroen copied me ;)

Is the new plate 87 CS? If so that must have cost more than the car!!!

sn3ddon 10th April 2011 21:25

your build is amazing

SunderZ 10th April 2011 21:53

Lol Craig yea it cost a small fortune but it is my date of birth and initials DOB 1987 initials clearly lol, worth it in my eyes.

And thnx sn3ddon, don't think it will be there fOr FCS this year but it might happen :)

Toz 10th April 2011 22:25

Really nice thread bud :y:

SunderZ 27th April 2011 15:05

Not much of an uptadate but here it is anyway

gearbox, flywheel and cluch off the old engine and ready to go on the new one the engine is 50% in just need a bit of muscle from my mate tomoz and should have it in so i can start positioning boost pipes and mountings for external oil filter etc but thats as far as it will go for a while as moving house and running my own comapy is takeing up all my time at the moment.

and also i will officially show my first development pick of my MK3 front end still needs a fair bit of work but hope this gives you an idea, working on relocating the indicators to free up space and looking at another style indicator as a temporary fix for the time being but i think it will look great and will help open the front end up for cooling contemplating mounting an oil cooler behind the grill

regards

chris

craig180 27th April 2011 15:13

This is going to look chunky!!!

How about some slim DRL's and indicators in where the fogs went?

SunderZ 27th April 2011 15:18

yeah makes it look allot wider.. have been looking at motorbike indicators or LED strips in the fogs like ya sugested, the bit i cant face is propper hacking up my morretes and thats why i stopped haha

Chr15 27th April 2011 20:33

DRL will look crap but its in keeping the the mk3/ds3 theme i guess

will be interesting to see it when finished :)

Jay_ 27th April 2011 20:39

looking forward to how to this turns out buddy! :y: nice to fresh ideas bouncing round!

Rob-6 27th April 2011 21:04

Could look good but will probably look gash, not sure really.

-shuggles- 15th July 2011 20:16

vtrchad 15th July 2011 20:34

looking forward too seeing this done

AL3X_ 16th July 2011 00:54
