Davyys Flame Clio 172

Just picked this up :D 75,000 miles, all belts etc done at ktec.

Mods so far:
Ktec super sport recessed catback exhaust system
Ktec engine mounts (why is this a popular mod?)
16' Turinis
Cup spoiler
ITG Maxogen induction kit
And few other little bits.

Planning on getting 4x Hancook v12 tyres but need to put some money aside for insurance first as only 18 so it isnt exactly cheap..

Had a little run up and down the road in it, feels so spacious compared to the saxo and scared myself a little!

Will get some pics in the morn :D

Recommendations, points etc welcome.

Whirly 19th January 2013 19:38

Sounds good mate, be good when you put a few pictures up tomorrow.

Gandi699 19th January 2013 19:51

Where was it from? Get some pics up!
How much is your insurance gonna be on that at 18?

Davyy 19th January 2013 21:29

It is costing me 550 to change from VTR to this for remaining 5 months of my policy. I get 1yr ncb in may and turn 19 in feb

Dano 19th January 2013 22:25

Davyy 20th January 2013 09:24

Very dirty cos of weather! Girlfriend is getting it detailed by Moxy for my Birthday next month :D

UKtom 20th January 2013 10:47

very smart samuel! are the turini's silver or anthracite?? looks good though!

Davyy 20th January 2013 11:04

They are silver, the standard colour i think

I want to get flame red mirrors, not sure why it hasnt got them!

Davyy 20th January 2013 11:05

Not sure on the yellow fogs..?

Jamie 20th January 2013 13:27

Looks nice exhaust looks well. Fogs look shite in yellow. Makes cars look old imo.

Davyy 20th January 2013 14:59

Cheers, yeah it is only film so will get that off soon!

Bobo0907 20th January 2013 15:45

Very nice. Im a big fan of flame red. :) (not as good as inferno though, :p )

Nah its real nice. Any plans for it?

moxy89 20th January 2013 16:15

Can't wait to get my hands on it Will look brand new

Dano 20th January 2013 16:16

The standard engine mounts are made from cheap rubber, when they get old they get loose and the engine moves around an awful lot

the ktec mounts are alot more solid, only issue with solid mounts is vibration through the frame, but its not a "bad" point, just noticeable on a daily drive

ktec mounts are a good bit of kit for the price, hopefully get some for my 182 soon :)

Seeing this thread reminds me, I need to update my progress thread..

you on cliosport.net? pretty good friendly forum :)
im user name: Dmonz

172's are great fun and the Flamer is a good choice. I'd take a guess the previous owner was on cs.net as it has the cup alloys, looks like silvervisions, aero wipers and the other 'often suggested' mods.

Davyy 20th January 2013 16:41

Cheers for the feedback. Like said just wanna get some flame red wing mirrors, have it detailed, not much i can do yet. Once i have paid off my renewal in may which is gonna be a lot i want to do a few more engine mods, at the mo just tidying it up!

Why are the wipers a popular mod? Yeah he included old ones also.

Haha me neither! Birthday is the 17th so will be just after then, will drop you a text nearer the time :D

Scott83 20th January 2013 16:51

Seen a few threads about them, not really a mod to be fair....they just seem popular on most cars I've seen recently.

I tried black mirror caps on my Flamer and try def look better red.

Davyy 20th January 2013 17:10

I dunno why it hasnt come with flame red mirrors? Seen others with them. Guess i will have to look around for someone breaking a flamer.

griff_106 20th January 2013 17:13

Absolutely adore Clio 172/182/200's mate - I'm considering one after I've moved on from the 106/Saxo scene.

Not seen too many Flame Red examples around but do like them - if I was to buy one, it'd have to be in Monaco Blue as I absolutely adore the colour - old man Griff had a Laguna V6 in that colour and it looked gorgeous in that colour IMO :)

Love the Turini's as well - they look so smart - definitely the best wheels for the car :y:

I'd get the 3/4 plate on the front as well - it's only a small thing but seriously tidies the whole car up in my eyes. I'd lose the yellow fogs as well - not my cup of tea lol. Pretty sure alot of (if not all) new cars have aero wipers so think owners are doing it as it's a tidier and neater design - certainly made my 106 look better :)

Out of curiosity and if it's not a rude question, do you know how much was it to get the belts done?

Davyy 20th January 2013 17:22

Receipts show just over 600 quid if i remember right!

Heh same here man - either that or absolutely hammer the asking price down :y:

Davyy 20th January 2013 18:50

Got it for a fairly decent price so happy with that!

Davyy 21st January 2013 12:39

A few better pics..

Feels like i am driving a merc compared to the saxo, the inside feels so spacious and luxurious, and to think it is only 6months newer than the saxo is mad.

Giraffe 21st January 2013 13:06

How tall are you? Compared to a saxo they are ok, but I wouldn't call them luxurious or spacious haha. I find the seating position a bit iffy and the seats are a bit small like.

Davyy 21st January 2013 13:08

Im 5ft 8, it feels a lot wider when in drivers seat, and compared to a saxo id call them luxurious haha, leather and suede is so nice!

Oh yeah, compared to a saxo they're a real step up. I'm 5ft 11 but on the podgy side I guess, the bolsters make it feel rather snug for me if you know what I mean. Had to drive my brothers yesterday, they're ok for what they are. I'm used to big cars, drive a Volvo S60 so the 172 felt almost like poverty! But they're good fun I guess, but too small for me!

Yeah dont fancy driving a volvo yet haha, for an 18yr old it is a perfect car i think!

Aye, just be wary of niggly problems. My bro is 22 and wanted one for ages, finally got one and it's just had niggles that have annoyed him to the point he wants to sell up and just get a diesel again, albeit a 330d, but a diesel none the less! Can see why an 18 year old would think they are good though
