BE3 and BE4 gearbox difference?

Hi all:

I just wanted to know whats the difference between the BE3 and BE4 gearbox because i want to swap my saxo turbo MA gearbox and i dont know which one to choose... which one is better and from which cars are both of them? thanks a lot bye!

tweeqd 16th November 2013 21:18

Be1, be3 and be3/6 have an xubellhousing

Be4 have the tu bellhousing

The be4 bellhousing is what you need then can mix and match the internals even fitting the 6 speed be3/6

OK, thanks one last question i know in a left hand drive saxo you can use the 306 1.8 16v shaft on the driver side, but do you know which model do i need to find to use the other side as a plug and play or i have to modify it? thanks a lot.

BE4 also have an XU/XUD bellhousing, and a DW, and an EP, and EW, and DV.

its not as simple as saying you need a BE4 box, you need the one with the correct bellhousing, which will be from a TU engined vehicle.

as for gear ratios, that can be sorted afterwards.

Ok the idea is to get a BE who was coupled with a TU engine in my case or XU engine in other cases to match the engine block holes. (Plug and play in some sorts)

None of those are cable operated are they?

I am looking for one not having any luck.

raunchz 24th November 2013 20:53

I might have a be box (to fit tu engine) and cable shift setup in bournemouth that i can bring upto my home in Leamington spa.

Not 100% if still got it but would need to check.

sexy_gt 24th November 2013 20:59

I have satchift but the box would be great...

welshpug 25th November 2013 08:32

Any of them can be converted to cable easily.

sexy_gt 25th November 2013 12:02

Really? I asked atspeed and they said they never heard of one being converted. So can you share any info?

Ross 25th November 2013 12:05

Several were cable out of the factory. Parts are available on service box. I looked at it a while ago for a sequential conversion.

Edit - I may have misread - I'm talking about cable shift not clutch operation. Apologies.

welshpug 25th November 2013 15:48

either clutch or shifting can be converted to cable, xsara picasso was cable shift, I've got the parts off a picasso gearbox as it will have a satchsift fitted.

afaik you can't use factory cable shift in a saxo/106 due to the shape of the bulkhead and position of the steering arms.

have a look on servicebox.

Ross 25th November 2013 16:36

Yeah my original plan was to convert to cable shift, and from there sequential using a cable/sequential adapter - but I've given up on that route for a while as other plans have got in the way.

I think with the sequential leaver the routing issue will be overcome.

sexy_gt 25th November 2013 17:55

Im just talking about the clutch :)

welshpug 25th November 2013 20:16

you either didn't explain to them clearly or whoever you were talking to doesn't have a clue, as Atspeed include the cable type clutch fork in their conversion kit (its an o.e part available from a pug/citroen dealer)

sexy_gt 25th November 2013 23:04

Rang atspeed saturday... said im having no luck finding a cable clutch operated be box.. i asked is it possible to convert a hydraulic one to cable. Reply was not that we know of.

welshpug 26th November 2013 14:59

I have bought the above kit last tuesdy. Yet to be delivered.

tweeqd 27th November 2013 20:51

Mines a hydraulic converted to cable ( but i was also told you cant convert to 6speed lol)
Chris cheerys yello 106 has the cable gearshift on top, had to mod the bulkhead to clear it

sexy_gt 28th November 2013 13:29

Just collected my box after being told its cable. Its not.

welshpug 28th November 2013 14:56

no bother, the Atspeed kit has all you need to convert it to cable anyway.

sexy_gt 28th November 2013 23:07

Bought it for ease. If i listed everything thats gone wrong over the last 13 months id probs cry buy main ones are...

Last trackday blew gearbox right away in morning.

One before that ended day at1pm due to disc blowout.

One before that clutch arm was bending every outing and then snapped just asni got it home.

One before that i crashed ... so i cant be arsed to make bits that take time and patience... the above is witbout charger belts snapping, electeical faults and much much more ;'(
