My story! lol Update 10/3/07

Well well it's my turn and seeing as everyone been doing it i thought i might as well join in on the fun!

This will be updated as much as possible depending on amount of time i have and if i cba updating pics onto pc :P

The Start

After i passed my test i drove around in one of these for awhile.

A lovly 1.6 16v mitsubishi carisma

After driving this around for about 4months i decided to buy my self a mk2 astra project car. Orig 1.6l

Aftering moding this with alloy wheels "pics to come" and exhaust system + sound system. and of course slamming the thing.

It was time for a new engine. So after endless hard work i purshed and put a 2l red top in the beast.

Durring this phase i used to see saxo owner and laff at them!

After geting bored of my Astra i started looking on ebay for a new car.

i always wanted a RS turbo so i went about looking at them. untill one day i was plotting around in my astra and my m8 comes out in his 106 gti.
I diden't relise how quick and gd at handerling these car's were untill then.

i quickly purshed a SAXO VTR 1999 with 63k on the clock for 2k

I bought it like that. It came with Bucket seats,CD player,17" evo3 supersilver alloys, Smooth boot, performance cam + remap. etc

Bargin ;) Drove it home and was instantly impressed with handerling and the speed. Sorry VTS you are slowing that my 2l redtop :P

to be continued

Emma_ZS 18th January 2007 20:51

Part 2

In answer to all your questions i have owned this car a very very long time and have modded it alot. There always has to be a start to somthing.

So i wasen't new to the modding scence as i had modded one car already and help'd many mates do theres.

Problems

Obviously been a french car there is bound it be problems. I picked the car up from brigton. the owner had told the the power steering was playing up.
I got it back on the IoW and it instalantly went. I drove it around for about 1week like this, and then got it fixed. for 50quid. New ignition lol.

Music

This was only temp for the time been, been pissed of with stanard speakers.
So did a bodge job :) Also retrimed all the interier in blue.

What a mess :P

More to come.

Clone 19th January 2007 12:04

Not sure i like the blue inside, but asw long as you do!

Tupps 19th January 2007 12:08

Part 3

One Day i was driving to work. When all of a sudden i hear a massive bang. and they car loseing power. at first i though my cam belt had gone.

The Came to a stop and the engine mount had snapped on the gearbox. "the bolts had sheerd of"

This gave me to options because i had to take the VTR lump out anyway to drill it out.

I picked this up for 150quid.

My mate had wrote it of few weeks previously. the bonnet came up when he was doing 120mph and had smashed the structure of the car.

I decided id do an engine change.

"lack of pics. ill add more when i find the rest"

So work started, It took 1 day to take the gti engine out, bloody drive shafts where been a pain in the arse. and another day to take the vtr lump out.

I droped the gti lump in from the top and this diden't take long at all.

In she goes.

After she was in i encounted more problems. she woulden't start. After trying to unlock the Ecu by useing the keys from the donar car and failing.

To be countinued

leminho 19th January 2007 16:57

don't you need to change you're brakes?
and many others things for that gti engine to work properly

Dan 19th January 2007 21:04

Shouldnt need to change the brakes no, did you get the transponder box from behind the glove box this should help with starting it.

Lexus lights need to go and smaller wheels.

beardy 20th January 2007 10:20

The car has been running for along time. im just going though the stages :P

more to come.

shawty 20th January 2007 17:25

are the alloys off the 106 up for sale mate?

beardy 21st January 2007 14:19

Part 4

After changing the GTI crank sensor over to the vtr one. Still no joy in her sparking into life.

I finnaly decide i need to get the ecu unlocked.

I took the car to citreon and asked for it to be reprgamed into my key.

They told me it would take around 1 hour.

I explained to them that it was only the ecu that needed to be done and do "NOT" put it on there digo machine.

I phoned them up later. Asking what the situation was, they explained the machine needed to repgrame the ecu was unable to be used that day so would have to be used the nxt day.

They used this excuse for 2weeks!! Untill i threatend to get tradin stanadrd on them. funny enough it got done that afternoon. "your car is up and running at the cost of 380quid"

What? they told me that after looking at the car for 8hours... 8!! and puting it on there digo machine that i asked them not to. That they found out the ECU was locked. when i told them it was.... They also replaced the Crank sensor to a VTS one.

but at least my car was running...... I picked it up and had to bleed the rad system. i drove it home and found a problem :( The clutch was fucked lol.

I took it to a different garage where i know the owners. and had lots of work done for 200quid. Clutch / Wire tidy up / Weld exhaust properly.

So clutch was done and was time to test drive her propaly.

More to come :P

gall34 21st January 2007 17:44

Part 5 New Wheels and Brakes + TPS problem

The Car started to rev it's self to around 5k and cut out regulary. i thought it origionaly could of been the stepper motor because how else would air get in? because the butterfly was shut. I however took my TPS of my vtr and put in on the gti engine. This worked first time! YEY!

MoT time is geting near and my 17" are a pain in the arse with all the rubbing. Evan tho ive done so much arch work. They are also foling the body work. aka fail mot!

because of the profile of the tyre i was on the limit and looking at 120quid a tyre. so that would of been 240 for the front two as they where on the limit!

After takin the car out one day and almost killing my self due to brakes been fked. i decided to buy new front and back disks as well as some new alloys.

here is my old brake...

New wheels Arrived :p 500quid with tyres

last time on 17" alloys :(

So me and my dad started taking the old brakes of. And puting the new ones on. along with the new alloys :D

for some reason the locating bolts diden't want to come out. so i drilled them of lol!

For some reason in this pic my saxo looks real high at the back. it aint really just depends where abouts it's parks "lvl of ground"

new 15" are great but handerling aint as good on nice smooth roads :( better handerling on bumpy roads lol!

i can also use full lock now YEY!!

More to come!

beardy 10th March 2007 12:10

Part 5

Sorry i aint updated this been very bussy,

Anyway, Car started to rev it's self at this point, so i had to get a new stepper motor!

So i took the trottle body of cleaned it and put a new stepper on :)

It was time for a clean befor the trip to manchester! So i took my buckets out and cleaned her :)

Insurance wise i pay 3k fully comp with endsleigh,
it was going to be 1.5k untill they asked the question! Is it english or jap import? most people would not INSURE a import :(

Driving record,
No points,
No convictions,
1year ncb! get my secend ncb in 2months! so insurance will be only 1.4k then :D
