Noddy's 1.1 - Flatarch - 25/02/10 - front lowered and VT brakes (Photos now up - more to come)

Right then. Seeing as I will be doing some work on the car at stages and when i'm not at work, I'd might as well put up a thread so you can see how things evolve.

So the car as it is then. Outside its a 2001 1.1 desire with the vtr alloys fitted. Everything else is as standard (for now) - inside, everything is as standard as well bar the HU which got changed from the stock clarion CD player to a Pioneer HU (DEH-P9800BT).

On the list of things to do. Currently I'm sorting out some prices for a new bonnet & slam panel after a knock that I had last November. After that:

- Upper strut brace - Done
- New back box (needs replacing) - Done
- New O/S headlight cluster - Done
- Front components - Done
- Respray front bumper (getting done at same time of spraying of bonnet etc) - Done
- Fit new plates (won't pass the MOT in sept in their current state) - Done
- Rear sub & amp - Done

After that then i'll let myself loose with other things but I'll stick them up when they occur....

I'll go and take some photos now and will stick them up in a bit.

Karl 16th March 2007 12:50

weyyy welcome to Sax-P if your from my end of the woods, do you come to Ashford much?

Noddy 16th March 2007 12:55

Unfortunately I don't. Most of my time is spent in the kitchen at work.:panic: When I do have time off though, its normally college work or electrical stuff that keeps me busy.

uppitysi 16th March 2007 12:59

Whhey Another Kent body!

keep an eye in the south east section and make sure you come out to play when we have a few meets!

Mozza 16th March 2007 13:04

Noddy 16th March 2007 16:24

As promised, heres a few photos that i've quickly taken of the car. Sorry for the crap quality on some of them - I need to clean the lens on my camera again.

mk1 vts's came with them wheels so techically they are still vts alloys :P

Looks tidy man, i reckon them alloys should have been an option on base models!

Steve 18th March 2007 18:16

looking good mate :y:

Skorpion 18th March 2007 21:29

Looking good mate. Very nice example of a base model!

ChrisJ 18th March 2007 22:54

Very tidy mate. Not keen on the sticker in the rear window though.

riggsy 19th March 2007 01:25

Vtr wheels look good on it.

Noddy 19th March 2007 10:15

My bad, yes they're the VTR wheels not the VTS

VTS_16v_Boy 19th March 2007 12:39

Need nice little tailpipe on the back of that mate. Somewhere between 3'-4'

Sportex or Peco will look ok and not break the bank, check these for back box options:

Sportex - www.tuning.co.uk
Peco (and others) - www.performancecentre.co.uk

That and a nice dimma grill, and thata look spot on maybe a tad lower and its all done :y:

gokan 19th March 2007 17:49

nice saxo

Noddy 20th March 2007 10:51

I'll look at the backboxes as the one that currently on there is pretty much had its day and needs replacing. Later on in the year once i've got time, I may lower it a bit as the ride is a bit high. The grill is something that i'm going to pass on though for a bit as I want to keep the car standard in appearance to start with.

James 20th March 2007 12:47

Looks nice dude, loose the Saxo sticker in the windows. Looks very ermm 'gay'.

P.S your my idol.

Noddy 20th March 2007 13:05

Personally I like the window etches (just like some people like the shopping lists down thier doors) - What makes me you're idol?

Predator_R32 20th March 2007 13:06

relly like thats mate well done :y:

Noddy 2nd April 2007 15:03

Woo yay!

Quick update:

Not much has changed actually, seeing as i'm at work 80% of the time currently and i've got other work that takes up most of my remaining time:sad: , the car is still as-is (although it has had a wash)

To my to-do list is now sorting out the front brakes. I've got a knocking sound from the brakes and after a closer look, it seems that the n/s disk has warped slightly and thus is causing a knock as it rotates. Seeing as it will have to be changed I tohugh that it would be appropriate to improve the braking at the same time by fitting some larger disks. I'm aware that this also means new callipers and pads?? How easy is it to change the disks over? Any photo guides about?

Also, i'm looking about for a new backbox as the current one is on its last legs... Apart from the stock backboxes, is there anything that would suit my car? Im not after a loud exhaust, just something that gives slightly better performance to what I already have. (It's only a 1.1 at the end of the day and fitting a high spec back box would be stupid and would sound awfull) Any ideas there?

Cheers

Yates 2nd April 2007 15:17

paint it yellow, red vt kit

Yates 2nd April 2007 15:30

no, put vt kit on yours, paint you car yellow and vt kit red

Noddy 2nd April 2007 16:08

Ok, the penny drops.

I'll stick with the blue actually. Would look rather odd, but different.;)

nathb84 2nd April 2007 16:21

looks like a clean motor

Noddy 2nd April 2007 16:38

Any ideas relating to my comments in post 24?

ChrisJ 2nd April 2007 16:55

No need really to get bigger disks as its only a 1.1. Just get some new standard size disks and pads.

Noddy 2nd April 2007 17:19

Ok cheers, I'll get that sorted then. **Adds to shopping list one set of std pads/disks**

Noddy 17th July 2007 22:16

Whooa! Hold up where have I been?

Hey up all. Long time no speak. Where have I been?:panic:

Whats changed with the saxo then? To be honest and i'm a bit down to say this, nothing at all!! :(

However, next weds, the car is finally going to the body shop for its new bonnet & slam to be fitted and for the front bumper to be sprayed. I've also got my self a spoiler the same as this (aj-vts's saxo)

After that, a whole new exhaust system is needed as the current one is shot (yip still got the same backbox with the rattle)? any ideas and suggestions?

New front disks are going to be ordered & fitted during hte summer hopefully (Looking at tarox disks?)

Then I may if i've got a bit of money left over buy myself a new set of rear lights before its MOT & insurance is due.

So hows life been treating you all?

Noddy 17th July 2007 22:20

oops and a linky for an image of the style of light i'd seen

mallboy 17th July 2007 23:24

yep those lights will look nice on your sax

Noddy 18th July 2007 10:56

I'm looking at either those or some smoked lights, but i'm thinking that the smoked ones wouldn't look quite right. I also prefer the crisper look they give.

Karl 18th July 2007 11:37

Smoked headlights.
good move.

Noddy 21st July 2007 13:08

Quick opinion question. What do people think of these components and (potentially amp as well) for up front?

Comps : >>Linky<<
Amp : >>Linky<<

I'm a fan of Pioneer electronics and the sub / amp i've been looking at as well is the same brand.

Sub : >>Linky<<
Amp : >>Linky<<

I'm going to be getting any of it just yet as i've got the car going in for bodywork next week and insurance is on the horizon (I also need to get my exhaust sorted out before then as well). Opinions then?

Predator_R32 21st July 2007 13:10

tbh mate i dont rate pioneer all that well, i only like there subs and headunits tbh

if you give me a budget ill get a system for you

Noddy 21st July 2007 13:14

And whilst i'm thinking of exhausts (as that is higher up on the agenda than sound) can someone recommend a suitable cat-back centre section to go with a Peco Back box [oval tip] (<< I don't want any thing too loud as it's only a 1.1 - so presuming Peco is sutble enough - just a nice rumble and not overly loud - i don't to feel stupid)

This is due to the fact that my whole standard system is shot and will need replacing by mid august.
