Saxo LED dials guide (56K NO NO)

i put some leds in my saxo today as i was board of the standard crappy green and all my mates had plasma dials so i wanted to be different so i went to maplin and purchased some SMD PLCC-2 BLUE LEDs (needed 16 of them). here are some pics they dont realy do it justice but its hard to capure it as there so much better in the flesh (oh and u can read the millage and display info and that but in the pics it looks like u cant)

BEFORE:

AFTER:

and here is the guide:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

LED DIALS GUIDE

1) Remove the dials from the vehicle

2) remove the outer case by pulling the clips back

3) remove the dial needles. this is done buy just pulling the speed/rev ones off with ur hand, for the other ones use some plyers and be carefull, also note where the needles are set.

4) now the dial transfers can be removed

5) spin the unit over and unclip he circuit board

6) you now need to desolder the old leds and resolder the new ones on. take your time and use some tweesers to help as there small and fiddley

7) once there all done test the unit to make sure they all work

8) refit and admire your handy work ;)

how long do you think it would take to do all of this?

Predator_R32 24th March 2007 00:57

a dont know mate id contact citroen see what they say, cos i think there the only ones that can do it so nobody can tamper with them

jsut so u know on new cars with digital miallage the millage is held on the ecu and the clock and if u fit say some clocks with 40,000 on it to a car with an ecu that sais its got 80,000 on it the ecu reads that clocks/ecu dont match and it then adds the two together so it would put 120,000 on the display and save it on the ecu. car manufacturers changed it to this to stop people clocking there cars

jsut needs uncliping its a bit fiddley as when u unclip one and move on to the next the first one clips back on so u need a few hands to do it but its easily done

Good point. Nice one for the guide steve im gonna get some of these leds and my bros gonna solder them in for me as id probably cock it right up. Would be cool to get the rest of the dash done with the dials, you reckon the LEDs are all the same?

mark16v 24th March 2007 11:10

Great guide there steve, they look great them.:y:

richo 24th March 2007 11:22

Would love to give this a try, dont want to bugger anything up however.

As Cal said how do you get the rest of the dash to light up the same?

And is the redline on the rev counter for example a different colour bulb?

stevenet15 24th March 2007 11:28

thanks for the good comments, i havent looked at the other parts of the dash yet, but i am going to do the cig lighter, heater dials and buttons aswelll but havent had time to look at it yet and iirc it dont use the same leds but cant remmeber for sure as i havent taken it off to look yet

no u jsut use the same colour bulbs e.g all blue as the red is produced from the filter on the dials so thats what makes it red where the rest of the dials is clear on the filter allowing the blue to shine through

BenSilverSaxo 24th March 2007 11:38

Very very good guide mate. Thanks for showing us all how to do it! It looks well trick!
