sax rwd project

heres a few pics of my project its gonna be rwd turbo ive got the engine waiting so iam trying to get itin fast
ive done a bit more since theses photos but when i get some more batterys ill update the pics

frankie 25th March 2007 16:23

mate hope it works. because that will be true amazin. good luck.

Cupra-Craig 25th March 2007 16:36

How are u making this rwd? mounting engine where? wat rear alex if mounting engine in front? Whats the spec of the turbo engine

oadamo 25th March 2007 16:46

iam gonna mount the engine in the front with a prop to the back to a kitcar type irs. that iam gonna make myself so it sould be a good fit.and easy
ive got a rs turbo engine dynod at 218bhp and that was with a duff wastegate so it might be capable of more but iam gonna run it on low b
oost so it lasts. and plus it will be cheap when it gos wrong and you can get the parts from anywhere ;)
iam logging it all down so when its done ill upload it with drawing and sizes and info on wot to do all you will need is a welder grider and basic tools and the cost of the steel and engine

ChrisJ 25th March 2007 21:11

Sweet Jesus, this is gonna be IMMENSE!!!! cant wait.

Dan 25th March 2007 21:48

Will be interesting to see it progress.

KamRacing 25th March 2007 22:43

Nice one. Keep us posted will be interesting to see how you do this compared to my own approach in my 309.

Not sure I'm completely convinced about the engine choice lol but I'm a big fan of the compact and light Duratec engine... 220bhp with standard internals and TBs. You can get gearboxes so you can mount them longitudinally also.
Nearly went for that myself.

Pleased you went for RWD though. So many go straight for 4wd and miss all the fun:y:

Mattsaxo 25th March 2007 22:50

Good luck mate, thats 1 hell of a project :)

oadamo 25th March 2007 22:56

the engine choice was a pain in the arse. i was gonna fit a bike engine or a v6 (i did buy a v6) but then i tough about how much room there was. so i was looking for a turbo engine that was cheap and could be mounted rwd .if the diff gos there only £20 from the scrapyard so i could keep a couple spare then if somthing gos wrong id have it back on the road in no time.and on the plus side a yb will fit when i get bored with the rs engine.

A YB as in a Nissan engine!?

oadamo 25th March 2007 23:29

cosworth yb

milesg 25th March 2007 23:53

this looks great mate, cant wait to see it finished, and hope you get a good guide up to do this as im interested in doing it now as i want to give myself a project for the summer, nice one mate!

KamRacing 25th March 2007 23:54

the yb is a seriously heavyweight engine though.. I ran a mile when I got one on the scales.. over 140kgs.

Proven to get big reliable power though so depends how the car is going to be driven as to whether its a good idea or not.

saxooxas 25th March 2007 23:57

cant wait to see the final car will be good me thinks!!

oadamo 26th March 2007 20:42

heres a few more pics

heres the hubs the ends of the shafts have been taken off as you need these to hold the hubs together

this was the engine when i got it out

fuel tank this was a pain in the arse to get off petrol everywhere lol

this it the underside with the gear linkage taken off and the heat sheilds

this is a view from the rear

KamRacing 26th March 2007 22:23

You'll need to cut a fairly large transmission tunnel..

use this for inspiration
