Mk2 VTR Track/Weekend Toy - Satchshift Fitted

My Second attempt at a progress thread, the last one wasn't updated and had little progress.

I bought the VTR back in 2008 fully standard, with the ambition to do a few mods and make it a bit better for my daily commute. Since getting a new job and increasing the commute I needed a better & more comfortable car.

New Car - Skoda Fabia VRS

How she looked before I took it off the road:

One from a winter trip to Scotland:

After booking a trackday at Oulton Park for the 31st Oct 2012 with Alanapone & Rich84. I started to rebuild the rear beam, sourced a beam with perfect stub pins, then got Floflex bushes, IM Axel bearings. Which took me 3 days to strip down and rebuild :(

The dog thought he would try and help, but most of the time just got in the way :)

Updated the brake fluid and the pads both front and back, checked over all the mechanical components and then started removing the rear seats/spare wheel and all the crap from the pockets.

Beam ready to go back on:

Ferodo DS2500:

So after some problems with the anti roll bar plate bolt snapping and losing the masurement for the ride height (guessed it in the end) the car was ready to load up for my first track day:

So we all signed in had the briefing and was told to line up ready for the siting lap. Car was 72dB @4200rpm. Just my look i was leading the pack :( sat in the pit lane shiting it in case something went wrong (high chance with it being French)

The day went fine without a single thing failing :) but my tyres where not helping and I think the tracking was out. And I can't wait for the next trackday :)

Insurance is now sorted on the car, so a transporter is no longer required for trackdays :)

Just need to get it though its MOT, shouldent be to much of a problem as it only failed on rear beam play last time.

Update for the car:
Bucket seat and Harness purchased, these are going to be fitted after the MOT as im not 100% clued up on the ins and outs of MOTs.

rick_VTR 10th January 2013 07:44

will still pass MOT with it fitted.

how do you think all the road rally cars etc get through MOT's

aslong as its secure and the harness is secure its fine.

Sam 10th January 2013 08:46

I know it should pass with them fitted but it will be easier to get it thought with standard seats and belts.

I have a collection of parts ready to go on the car very shorty:

Rallydesign Coilover conversion,

Wishbone bushes.

Should keep me busy until my next trackday in December :)

Nice rims ;)

Looks like it's coming along nicely dude

Alanapone 12th October 2013 08:28

Plenty to do mate. Some great parts there to build up. :D

dave_1 15th October 2013 20:28

Liking the wheels Sam. As its for motorsport use the mot tester should test it as a motorsport car meaning seats/harness and iirc airbag light dont matter.

Sam 15th October 2013 22:30

Cheers Dave :) I really like the wheels and they are really light but a twat to keep clean, so when I can be arsed they may get powercoated.

Yer MoT passed with the harness and seat, I wasnt sure that why I asked. But I ripped the airbag light out of the cluster :)

Just spent an hour in the workshop at work, trying to figure out how it all fits and what needs drilling/welding/grinding..... Hope fully should have one side complete tomorrow :)(minus the welding)

saxokid100 8th November 2013 13:41

Sits very nice on those rims Sam!! like all your new parts, wil be beast when all built up...

Sam 8th November 2013 21:28

Cheers Niel, I cant wait to get it all back together.

--------------------------------

Building the coilovers I noticed that the topmount nut was only on the dampner thread a few turns:

So I measured the top of the strut below the threaded section and worked out how to make the nut sit fully on the threaded section. Fired up the lathe and drilled out the required diameter:

Just need to weld the threaded tube onto the strut and its ready to go :)

sexy_gt 9th November 2013 08:54

Be aware with those dampers and top mounts... anything less than standard height will be very close to bumpstop.

saxokid100 27th November 2013 03:30

Nice workshop sam!! very clean and tidy...

Sam 27th November 2013 07:49

Haha thats the contractors workshop so I leave it how I find it :)
