Number of "Thanks" under avatar

"Thanked ### Times in ### Posts"
Just seen this on another forum and really like it.

Its a bit similar to the rep system, and i imagine it would be very easy to implement on ours as we're half way there already. Hopefully it would encourage users to help each other out and offer decent advice.

Have a look on this forum for an example,

It's Saxp Paul. You'll get idiots begging for thanks.. higher the greater etc

Good idea but it would follow the rep system (which i hated back in 2008 btw)

Hi mate,

I understand 100% what you mean regarding the rep system, i remember them days! I was soo happy when the Rep system got taken off.

The main problem with the rep system was the opportunity to "Neg Rep" which lead to saxp-saddos writing in complaining they have been left negative rep and requesting the admin to alter it. And bandwagons all neg repping one user. etc

The thanks system is used really well on this forum as it is for the moment. However i feel this could be improved further and it would be very easy to implement. We could easily set it up to only work in certain sections, such as the Problems & Queries section, as opposed to the General Chat section.

The benefit of this is its quite easy to see which members are helping out and gives a better judgement than a simple "post count" which could be 28,757 posts of crap ;) (OJ).

There is still a problem with the thanks system though. People use it as a 'LOL' button as well as a proper tool to thank someone for help.

We have to accept that no system is going to ever be 100% perfect and bullet proof.

Hopefully by only having the thanks button only available in the technical sections as it is now will help out.

All i'm suggesting is the amount of likes each user receives is easier to see, rather than going on their profile, make it nice and easy to read under their avatar. Maybe it will motivate people to help out more.

Think positive you bunch of miserable ....people.

Add a LOL button.

Then continue with your plan with the thanks.

The point I was trying to make though is that if you make the scores visible then in some cases it would be false due to the 'LOL' thanks instead of the proper thanks :)

Personally I think we should remove post count from being visible, and implement this idea - emphasis then on helping each other :)

you're just trying to dominate because you have more posts! Nice try.

Remove the post count so you can secretly build it up, then ask for it to be visible again. I know your type mate...

Ross 15th July 2013 23:37

No. I'd just be doing it to piss viper off mostly. And prickle. :p

Then apparently id be the best person on here as the "most thanked" award iirc is mine

So it would definatly give false impressions as im a knob

I generally believe this system, which is half implemented anyway but just displayed on users profiles, will be help motivate a few members to write some more guides.

You would have the information under your avatar:

" Thanked 1,040 Times in 817 Posts "

Maybe you're not a knob, really. :detective:
