Adam's furio - 16v
Hey everyone. I'm a bit late making this progress thread so apologies. I got my first saxo, a 2000 furio, about 2 months ago. I'm 16 so it's off the road, giving me lots of time to work on it freely. I have been busy on it ever since and thought i'd start a thread before i got too far. I'll start from he beginning.

But that interior is just awful lol Started by taking the airbag and wheel off The next stage was to strip it all out Finally got my seat delivered. A sparco circuit. a beauty of a seat. My passenger seat is a circuit plus, but that has about a month until it is delivered. not good. Went to autosport international and had a shopping spree. saved a good chunk off money haggling. This is the growing pile of parts in the spare room. My next purchase was a good pair of 6 points. in this case i went for some omp 804 leggera's. |
Took delivery of my roll cage. Sparco fia 3b.
Thought i would make a start on the dash. First to remove the centre dash. I am cutting it just above the heater controls because i am making an aluminium dash. Btw i forgot to mention what i actually got at autosport. I got the harnesses, a killswitch, omp steering wheel, lifeline quick release boss, the boss itself, dash stickers and a lifeline extinguisher system. Ah, my only compromise http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/1062/p1010413p.jpg Cage next to the car. i was washing it down before the painting begins. |
My raceland enclosed induction kit arrived. It's cheap but it works.
The next tedious job was to start painting the cage. I started with a good 2 coats of red oxide paint as a good base. I fitted the raceland kit. What a bitch to fit. no brackets. I'll make some up and bolt it to the slam panel at some point. Along with the induction kit i also got some bonnet pins delivered. |
Ok this was dash removal day. Not to hard on the saxo compared to other cars it was quite a doddle.
Should make the wiring a whole lot easier |
Bonnet pins fitted. Excuse the filth car detailing guru's out there, it had just rained all day.
I received the car with a slight rocker cover gasket leak. This had made a nice grime trail down the block. I got the degreaser out and had a good clean up. Then replaced the gasket. |
I made up a quick template for my centre dash. Should look pretty good in ally. On this i'm going to mount the kills witch, extinguisher pull T and the standard switches.

This day was the biggest day of the project so far. Roll cage day. finally!
Hand painted with red hammerite, it didn't come out to bad may i say. And most importantly far far cheaper than spraying. This was step one. The main cage. This was a pig of a thing to position. The hard bit was getting over the centre tunnel. We finally found a way, got it in and then tilted it back until in postion. This didn't happen however. about 2 inches from position it hit the sunroof drainage casing. This was, as you can imagine, bloody annoying. This was the point that i lost my patience and went inside as it was raining and cold. However, the weather subsided and left me with a few hours of light left. I pushed on and finally got it in, with the help of a methodical use of a block and hammer. Appropriate name don't you think This is the main cage in position The door sections went in in no time. the only piece left is the windscreen bar, but that obviously can't support itself, that will be welded in later. |
This was the kill switch wired up and ready for the battery cables to be fitted and the battery terminals to arrive.
Ok everyone, that's the progress thread finally brought up to date. I'll keep it up to date. Feel free to criticise and suggest, and hopefully praise. cheers Adam |
looking good :)

New Oil catch tank and green filter ordered. Didn't have any money for the green when i first got my raceland but it is a must have over the nasty standard one. Catch tank is a welcome edition aswell.

cheers

Looks like a good little project, keep up the good work :y:.
|
looks good, what are you going to drive when you're 17 and on the road? i'm assuming this is a sole track car??
|
Oh no, this is will be my daily. should be fun, loud, unpractical....but fun none the less. i'm a motorsport student so i can get away with it
|
hmm well i can't really criticise as my car is stripped too, on the lookout for a daily runaround though!
Insurance will be a bitch with a cage in, i looked into it and it's something a lot of insurers don't like on a road car :n: |

Im 27 with 6 years no claims & i struggled tbh ... Car is looking good though, nice to see a new driver with the right ideas on how to mod a car :y: |
was it a vts? and what company were u with?
adrian flux add 5% to the base car premium on your first mod, then 1% for the next 7 i think it is, then any more are 0% |
i love ur post lol! unpractical, loud etc!! should be a good head turner on the roads lol :P
|
