P0351 error code non start Saxo VTS.

My VTS comes up with this code and it won't start, this code make the injectors only spray on number 2 and 3 cylinder,(video below) if I delete it they all spray as normal but the code comes straight back on after I turn the ignition on again.

I've got voltage to all injectors,I got a new coilpack, crankshaft sensor, swapped the injectors around and tried another injectors loom (the final bit with the 4 plugs) but nothing worked, injectors have been ultrasonic cleaned and tested, the ECU has been unlocked by unplugging the immobiliser while running, not sure if that has to do with anything,it did come up with a ecu error code but it has deleted and hasn't come back.

Can anyone confirm this is how the coilpack plug is wired,3 plug ECU.

Pin 1 = Primary trigger for coil pack 2 - this serves spark plugs 2 and 3
Pin 2 = 12v battery suppy voltage via fuel injection relay
Pin 3 = Chassis earth
Pin 4 = Primary Trigger for coil pack 1 - this serves spark plugs 1 and 4

How do I go about testing the two triggers from the coilpack pins?
I've got the 12v supply voltage.

I'm a bit lost to be honest and need some help.

What colour is the coilpack plug? (on the coilpack itself)

It's grey plug originally, I've a spare brand new from euro wich is a black plug and neither seem to have anything to do with the code, admittedly the grey one is a used one I bought on eBay and could well be faulty but I would think even with the black one the car would run at least.

Double post mistake.

Chipwizards 12th March 2021 21:58

No. It absolutely must have the grey plug coil because it is wired differently for phase detection.
Wires are:-
1 Cyl 1&4 from ECU
2 Cyl 2&3 from ECU
3 Phase signal to ECU
4 Power supply to Coil

You've got a three plug ECU which does sequential injection and uses the coil voltage deflection to determine phase. Sometimes the fault code is described as 'Cam sensor fault', even though they don't have a cam sensor.

Thank you, this might well be my problem because I've re-wired the coilpack plug with the pins described in my previous post so it's wired wrong,so it should be this way:

Grey 1:Cyl 1-4
Pink 2: Cyl 2-3
Orange 3: Phase ECU
Green 4: 12v feed

I will swap the wires around tomorrow and see how it runs, thank you!

All fixed now,one wire was the wrong way around pin 2 should have been pin 4,runs on all four now. :y:

That would do it.

Anybody knows how the thermostat coolant temperature sensor is wired on a 3 plug ECU VTS? Hayness it ties in with the TPS on one side and goes directly to the ECU on the other pin but can't find any of the wires, the marked numbers on the ECU plug makes no sense to me so can't find it that way,my coolant temp sensor thinks it's -31. :(

Chipwizards 27th March 2021 19:31

The wire shared with the TPS is the sensor ground.
The wire to the ECU is the sensor signal.
The temperature sensors don't need a 5V supply, like the TPS and MAP sensors do, because they have a 'pull up' in the ECU and the two together form a voltage divider.

Haynes only shows the diagram for the single plug ECU,any chance you would have the pin numbers for the coolant temp for 3 plug?

Well, I've fixed the coolant wiring but now shortly after I start the car I loose signal to the diagnostic and data from all sensors (tried another one as well),with the ignition on it works just fine only when I start it this happens and then engine light starts flashing and misfiring.

What codes do you get after you've run it?

Is it the right loom for the engine and ECU, not a three plug from the 8V engine with a Bosch or Sagem ECU?

VeiRoN 2nd April 2021 21:32

I only get this code,mine is a 48P2.80

Yes engine side and ECU is the original VTS 3 plug one

sri_130 4th April 2021 08:39

Jesus that sounds terrible.
Presuming you've undone the coolant wiring fix you've done and made sure it was that!

VeiRoN 4th April 2021 11:37

Well it's missing half of the exhaust, I've ordered it weeks ago but there's been a delay in the delivery, I've also got a new unlocked ECU on the way and a brand new grey plug coilpack as I might have damaged them by using with the wrong wiring? (I got two of them, mind they were used ones so no way of knowing the condition of them) If that doesn't solve it then I'll go back to the wiring loom.

I spent months chasing an idle issue on a 106. Threw the parts cannon at it.
In the end, thought I'd got it, only to then break down on the first test drive!
Plugged it in, and got ECU fault as the error message. Could have told me that from the beginning! Fckin thing.
These things are getting that old, the next time I have something like that, I'm going to get a loom made and a standalone!
You have my sympathies.

To be fair it did come up with a ecu processor code a while ago but after deleting it and not coming back and reading about a few other people experience where their car would run normally I had not given it much thought, but at this point it's definitely worth to give it a try for the 100£ I spent for an unlocked one, while that arrives next week I'll have another good look around the wiring.

I'd be testing the sensor grounds

Running now,no misfires just doesn't idle
