Who uses a Laptop as their man PC?

I'm getting bored of using my Desktop all the time, It's hard swapping between a Laptop and a Desktop.

I'm thinking of selling all my Desktop and going for a laptop.
Does anyone just have a laptop too.

Thing I don't like about Laptops is typing on a hot keyboard and I find it easier to type on a keyboard for when I'm doing Uni assignments.

I just have a laptop but I want a mac.

johnlambert 22nd November 2010 01:03

saxo-dude-16v 22nd November 2010 01:04

On a real keyboard I type really slowly. Not used to it at all now! :homme:

2-3 years back i used to type really fast on one lol but now i am mega slow on a normal keyboard, laptop all the way.

I prefer having both.

I love my desktop for when I'm editing photos and the rare occasion I'm gaming. I love a proper keyboard as well.

Laptop is always used for sitting int he front room watching TV. I don't have a laptop at the moment though, I'm waiting to see if they release a new MacBook Pro

They didnt update them that long ago.

No news from my mac gurus about any new ones either.

OT : I use just a laptop, but thinking about going for a decent spec station for my work and then just get an Ipad for net use infront of tooooooooooov.

iPads are ok but the lack of multitasking is a shame. E.g msn keeps logging out whenever I go to Safari etc.

Mac rumours site claims updates are likely on the MBPs

mac seem to cycle products about 12-14months, so you still have a fair wait for a new pro.

Ipads for me are great, I dont want to use msn (have not logged on for months) the big issue is the lack of support for things like embedded youpube etc.. so waiting to see if the new pad is better than the current and actually has a usb slot.

I use a laptop. Hate desktop PC's.

Not used one at home for years!

I am sure i used to have an app on my iphone which kept you logged in msn even when you went on another program, i cant remember what it was called though, if i remember ill pm you!

I was waiting for a new MBP 13, but from what i have read there will not be one until next june-august(the normal cycle). I was disapointed when they didnt update the processor to an i3+ but i understand their reasoning (if its true), but i wont pay that much money for what is quite old technology.

OT: I have 2 laptops, one which doesnt move as i stupidly bought a 17inch and its horrible to move around. I use that with a normal keyboard and mouse as i prefer it to the normal keyboard.

I also have a smaller laptop for moving around which is quite useful, i can use they keyboard on that fine, although sometimes switching between the keyboards it will take me a few minutes to get used to the spacing etc again.

In regards to a hot keyboard only my 17 inch laptop does this and the model of it has huge over heating problems, i dont think on a "decent" laptop you would have these problems. Aslong as you are not using it on a bed etc where the laptop will heat up quicker, and more then usual.

Whether or not you should get a laptop for everything you do will depends on what you will use it for. I have seen some desktop replacement "laptops" and they are HUGE, I would not want to move it anywhere except inside the house, unless this is what you plan to do any way?

Sorry for the wall of text.

I've just gone from laptop to a mac and don't regret it. I didn't move my laptop enough to warrant needing it's portability.

Laptops don't seem to be great at doing things for a long time. They get hot and die.

I have the laptop as a back up if need be, but the mac is my main computer.

That was my thinking and what I did.

Oh yeah and 'battery life' becomes non-existent on a laptop.

Good for quickly saving what you're doing if there is a power cut though.

Bought a laptop back in September to replace my desktop. Never looked back since. Just keep a Keyboard and Mouse on my desk incase I need to do any serious typing.

Mochachino 22nd November 2010 16:25

Only use the laptop now, its on 24/7 7 days a week, keybourd dosent get hot either unless I sufficate it.

Use it for a variety of uses, none of which are serious though. Apart from internet browsing, abit of web design dreamweaver and photoshop laptop runs them perfectly fine although a larger 20+" screen and a mouse would be desirable.

Can of course plug your TV in when you want to use it as a desktop, or wireless with Samsungs & most likley with a few other makes.

ipad is gettin a update in december to able multitasking!

i use a laptop all the time but if i was doing assignments i would defo be back on my desktop, also prefered using my desktop for photo storage and music storage and just using laptop to chat and lounge about using!

MunkyBoy 23rd November 2010 20:02

iPad had the update already :) Got it on mine.

I have a desktop for doing like long typing, storing films / music, and an ipad for facebook / forum / games etc.

Best of both worlds.
