Raunchz's 306 Rallye

Hi all,

I've been on here for a while, I used to have the following car:

Rough spec of this was a '99 Saxo VTS, Jenvey throttle bodies, Piper Cams, Piper Manifold, Saxsport exhaust, Megasquirt plug 'n' play ECU, HiSpec 4 pots, Bilstein Group N suspension, Peugoet Sport 21mm torsion bars, Superleggera alloys and a Cobra bucket seat.

I broke the above for parts and bought a new Seat Leon FR+ for using for work.

I'm now in the position for a second car so have bought a '98 306 Rallye in Red. Not got many pictures but this is the best one I've got:

I've replaced the following so far as it was in need of some serious tlc when I bought it:
- Headgasket
- waterpump
- idler and tensioner pulleys
- lightweight crankshaft pulley
- aux belt
- full service
- both new rear calipers, pads and discs
- all new rear copper brake lines
- new compensator valve
- new battery

In addition to the above, I've fitted the following to uprate things:
- Magnex stainless exhaust setup - cat-back
- PTFE inlet gsket
- Powerflex Black rear lower engine mount
- SPA gauges (oil temp/oil pressure and water temp/boost pressure)
- OMP dished steering wheel

Future plans are as follows to try and make it a bit more of fun car to drive:
- Replace all of the suspension with new oem items
- Powerflex Black bushes were possible
- Uprated front brakes (going to fit some wilwood 4pots to oem discs so I can keep the cyclones)
- Quaife ATB LSD
- Take off and remount the front and rear bumpers
- refresh the gear linkage setup
- under-seal the whole car
- upper and lower strut braces (not sure that the lower will fit with the undertry)
- thicker rear ARB (maybe c.26mm)

Open to feedback and any suggestions on improving on the driving experience of the car, without going too hardcore.

Plus am slowly tidying up the engine bay, cleaning a lot of crud off everything, just need to find a battery box lid and connect up the SPA gauges

Have now bought a xsara vts rack for it which is quicker than the oem rack.

Am going to fit lightweight flywheel, new clutch and rebuild front suspension whilst I drop the subframe to fit the rack.

Basically a predator but for the gti6? In the not to distant future I'd would love to put my own rotrex setup together for it and get it on. I'm out getting the Leon serviced at the moment but will pm you later on - very tempted to give it a go as I loved everything about the Predator.

Plus car's only a weekend car so perfect for a bit of development work ;) pity is I'm now loving up near Leamington Spa

Hi Raunchz, long time since I have seen you on here. db_ sax btw. How are you doing?

think it needs a V3 electric dump valve, if you can remember what im talking about lol

Nice plans :)

luthor1 15th November 2013 11:39

It's a freshly designed and built board, it's obviously got 2 extra coil drivers and 2 extra injector drivers, and also an input for the CAM position sensor :)

Can get 220bhp out of them relatively easily with bodies, cams and a little head work and with that close ratio gearbox they go like stink!!

Loool i still remember that thread now, had me in stitches reading and replying to it. Yeh all's good, this site has changed a bit, used to be some awesome progress threads but seems to have died down a bit

Now we're talking ;) i guess it'll run the idle valve okay?

I love the noise of the engine from 4-7k, plus feels pretty quick in standard form. Dont want to mess with engine too much for now but do like the sound of a pnp ecu!

Thanks, yeh i plan on sorting out any rust on the underside and keep it for a while - will keep all the oem bits so can be put back to standard at any point and hopefully should only go up in value!

nice to see you back Raunchz!

Yeah idle valve works perfectly well. They are awesome, I had one for a while to develop the ECU on and they were rapid things. Got to get the suspension and brakes right thought or they are awful, they have passive rear steering bushes which you may choose to solid-mount for a more traditional handling setup... lots of info out there though!

My engine builders' father runs a 285bhp 306gti in the Irish Touring Car championship and often wins races. That engine flies, so if you are interested in anything on that side drop me a note :)

Sadly mine hasn't moved for about 2 years, would take a whole lot of work to get it upto scratch again

Gonna keep my eye on this thread

You planning on getting it back on the road again?

Thanks, can't stop finding excuses to take it for a drive!
