Gear linkage, ball joint and rods? scrap

Took my car to garage today as car has a gear selector problem, sometimes wont let me into 1st, 2nd etc. Said i needed new gear linkages, ball joint and some rods or something? he later told me im better of scrapping the car :O 2001 saxo desire, 69,000 genuine mileage. Is he being an arse? shall i get it fixed? how much will this cost and where can i get the parts :). thankyou

theres some linkages on ebay, anyone know which ones i need?
:) also he says gear ball joint or something? what is this? :)

Alanapone 22nd June 2010 14:22

To be honest i'd take it to another garage and find out exactly whats needed, and get a price off them (itemised) for what needs doing. Then you have a list of the parts you need and you can buy them off here or ebay and see if someone's local to fit them for you (for a small fee obviously :y:)

stonex 22nd June 2010 14:29

i know its deffinatly the gear linkages but what else, i do not know so will get a second opinion :)

anyone know which ones on ebay are the right ones for my 1.1 desire :)

rob_s 22nd June 2010 14:29

lol he probs knows someone or is after himself a cheap run about

if you agreed to scrap it guareed he would have it himself

it will need a set of linkages and the ball joint he means could be the control arm? with the rubber ball on the end i presume

but as said get it back and take it elsewhere

Princey_vts 22nd June 2010 17:24

the gear linkanges are universal mate. ones off a 1.1 are the same as ones off a vts. Just put some 1.1 106 ones on my vts. exactly the same so ignore them on that. Scrapyard best bet, i paid £3 for mine :). As for ball joints dont cost a massive deal £30 tops and they arent that hard to fit even for a first timer or someone who isnt mechanically savvy.

If i was you, get another opinion and ignore the ignorant arses.

Hi, Here is a little more to add to what the others have posted above:

2) Citroen part 2449 65 "CONTROL RETURN" which is about £36.85 inc VAT or try a breaker

saxo-parts 22nd June 2010 23:13

he's trying to have your pants down, bottom arm with balljoint £15 used £40-ish new, set of gear linkage rods £5 used, £15 ish new, hours labour £40 job done.

stonex 23rd June 2010 09:19

New linkage rods for £15 :O i've only seen ones for £40, where can i get these? :)

I need 2,3,3 and 5 i belive? possibly 1 but cannot remember if he said this needs replacing. Gonna get a second opinion soon tho.

thanks for all the help

get sum uprated ones off ebay 30 40 quid it will stop the problem happening in the future as they wont pop off causing u to lose certain gears easy job to fix anyway

stonex 23rd June 2010 23:21

are these correct? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-SAXO-G...item4cee8856a4 just wanna know before i buy :)

saxo-parts 23rd June 2010 23:32

they are the usual parts in the gear linkage that fail so i'd guess these are the parts that the guy means

stonex 23rd June 2010 23:56

yeah i know its definatly the linkages, just need to find out the other bits and bobs.

Those linkages would fit my saxo tho yeah?

thankyou for the help :D
