Headgasket guide

Bought a standard head gasket for a c2 for jp4s hybrid conversion, however upon removing the j4 head the headgasket are very different.

The one I've bought is 0.63mm thick apparently, and is two sheets.

The one on the saxo has 3 parts, two gaskets and a thicker plate between them. It has to be nearly 2mm thick.

Is this just a thick repair gasket someone has used? Don't think it's thick enough to be a decomp plate, however when I tested it most cylinders were about 180psi.

Obviously I shall rotate the engine by hand to check clearance, but I was expecting the gaskets to be roughly the same size.

Pictures to follow tonight.

I could use the gasket that matches the head you're going to use.

0.63mm seems a bit on the thing side, is this definitely correct?

Aren't the decent MLS gaskets 3 piece?

Martin - the HG is for a c2 and is apparently the standard spec one. it does look about the same thickness as what was on the c2.

No idea mate - the standard c2 one is two pieces.
I've not seen what the saxo's have standard.

Who knows, just fit the gasket but dont torque the bolts down too much, fit belt and see if the valves hit.

If not then... i'm sure it'll be fine at that :D

Trial and error it is!!!!

I was under the impression many more people had completed this conversion -I thought there would be more detail on here.
Will put it all in my progress thread :y:

your trying to make this too complicated
use same torque settings no matter what gasket you fit +which ever head block combo you use
as for correct thickness --if worried do a dry build.no need to torque head bolts and use old gasket with clay on top of piston -time up cams -turn over by hand 2 full turns --remove head and check thickness of clay
anything more than 2mm and you can fit a thinner h/gasket and get more power
