Tee Vee

Right, As most of you are aware Robb is in need of a new TV. Few people on here know their stuff so Im after some advice.

Im looking for a branded model. Something like Samsung or LG. Would love a Sony but they are mega bucks.

Size, really want a 50 inch. But would look at 47, maybe even 42.

As for quality, Im not tooo bothered. HD is a must, freeview is a bonus. I want the best quality possible, I think its a 1080i??

As for budget, looking to spend around £1,000. Maybe a bit more.

Will obviously rep kind folk for their help.

Jacko 5th December 2007 13:43

1080p os the best available.

Personally places like currys etc are a rip of imo!

AM4R 5th December 2007 14:17

Right what you want is a tv with good contrast ratio, so this shows more colours. Usually 10000:1 or greater is good.
In terms of branding, Sont get most of their parts from LG and rebrand them The only makes in the market that make their own parts are LG, Samsung, pioneer, panasonic.
Also the types of hd are 720 and 1080i and 1080p You cant really tell the difference between the 1080's, just one is alot more expensive!
Usually plasma is better for films etc and lcd for smaller screens.

Ive got this http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...rmationSection

Its an amazing tv and in your budget.
Hope that helps

AM4R 5th December 2007 14:23

big lcd with normal tv will be very pixelated mate, the quality will be crap unless the input is hd.

Wayne 5th December 2007 14:27

btw my auntie got her 50" of an ebay shp, brand new with warrenty ect for around £900

Sutch 5th December 2007 14:41

I've been looking at this

£799.99
Plasma rather than LCD
50"
10,000:1 contrast
But its only 720p not 1080p :n:

This one
Is over the budget you wanted, but from what I know about tv's, the spec is amazing.
46"
15.000:1
Full 1080p
Freeview
3 x HDMI and about a million other connections

What i mean is the picture might come out a bit blocky and not as clear as plasma, It depends on the source aswel and also the quality if the cables. I always find that plasma comes out clearer from personal experience

Jacko 5th December 2007 14:58

samsung is the best in tv's for games. they have a chip in them that hightens the response time thus making gameplay almost flawless.

AM4R 5th December 2007 15:00

correct^
