Saxo '98 1.1 speedo problem

Hello,
I have a '98 Saxo 1.1 The speedo sometimes not working at all. But sometimes it starts to working for a while. Can i get some help in this case where should I start to find the root cause? Thanks in advance :)

Speed sensor on the gearbox, clean it/replace it and see how you get on.
