Strange loss of power.
Hi all.
Today I took the saxo for a longish run,& it started to lose power followed by a loud ticking sound. The car would not accelerate above 50mph,then the power came back to normal again then 10mins later loss of power again.Am I right in thinking a faulty coil pack?I've just swapped it over with a spare one, initially it started up with a slightly lumpy idle then ran ok. Thanks.:drink: |
Could be a faulty coil pack shorting to the block being the ticking noise only firing on 3 cylinders., could also be the jiggle pin or the naan valve that's connected to the baji pipe. All could be possible but I would go with the first.

The coil pack won't short to the block, but I have seen coil packs tick beforr when they give up. Could also be fuel pump or relay issues. Process of elimination mate.

How will it not short to the block??

The coil is totally insulated against the block.

Wow, you're a clever one aren't you. So no coil pack in the history of cars has ever shorted to the block? News for you yes it has and it happens on the regular the spark will always find the easiest rout to ground. If that's through aged plastic damaged insulation resin or just a crack in the insulation it can and will find a path to ground- the block.
