Saxperience Essential Maintenance - Mon 21/May/2007 1am

Saxperience is growing faster than ever, and even though we only moved to a new dedicated server on 12/Sep/2006 (see Saxperience Essential Maintenance - Downtime!) and it has been doing a valiant job keeping up with the increasing demand, the server has been showing signs of strain at peak times.

We always strive to ensure that your enjoyment of Saxperience is as trouble free as possible, and like most people we don't want to be caught without enough power to get us out of trouble... so we're going to upgrade to a significantly more powerful server!

A couple of specs for the techies out there (you know who you are):
- 2 x AMD Opteron Dual-Core Processors
- 4GB RAM
- 2 x 250GB HDD

Inevitably, this means that there will be some downtime while the migration takes place.

The Saxperience Web site will be offline after 1am on Monday 21st May 2007.

Any downtime will be kept to a minimum and should hopefully be no more than a couple of hours (and you'll all be in bed probably anyway) ;)

Any questions or concerns please locate your friendly local moderator.

Edit: I forgot to add that this migration will also affect the Premium member email services. Undelivered messages will be held in a queue until service is restored.

what speed are the processors running at?

al_VTR 19th May 2007 17:17

I'm sure the majority of us won't even be up at that time, big thumbs up as i'm sure you meant to arrange that kind of time with you being in the US.

Keep up the good work Mark!

Doubt we will be seeing the V4 implemented during the night, I reckon that is a few months away.

Least there is nothing new to learn, think I'll hang around to 12am and then bugger off to bed.

Tonight we're "simply" (lol) replacing the server with one significantly more powerful (more than 10 times more in fact). During this move all data will be transferred - no posts, pms, email messages or anything else will be lost.

Much of the core server software is also being upgraded in preparation for v4 (although as you guessed, v4 isn't happening just yet).
