Battery light stays on without ignition

First of all I would like to apologize if there's an already a thread about this one...

As the the tittle by itself says, my battery light stays ON without ignition. Goes out when I start the car and appears again when I turn the engine off. This cause my battery to be fully drained, since I didn't started a car for few days, although it's brand new. Got my battery fully charged last night and the problem appeared again this morning. The alternator has been repaired/restored recently, since the output voltage was somewhere around 12.5V.

It's a '99 1.4 Furio VTS, and ever since I bought it, it has been nothing but a really big pain in the ass with all gremlin electrical problems...

Thanks!

You did not put it back on properly, check all connections and earths.

I think I've managed to find the problem...

It's the dodgy hazard light switch, which never worked, so I've never used it. It won't stay in position, and it seems that the previous owner connected a stereo unit to it.

So basically,

1st position of the button - stereo is on, the battery light is glowing and I can switch left and right turn signal without ignition.

2nd position - stereo off, no battery light on the dashboard, no turn signal. Everything works as it should.

I've ordered a spare hazard light switch, so I'll give it try and see if this will help

Ok. I've changed the hazard light switch and the battery light is gone. Also, the stereo cannot be turned on without the ignition.

But now I have another problem - hazard lights don't work. When I push the button, I can hear the relay clicking, but nothing happens. Turn signals are working fine...

The indicators are wired through the hazard switch.

it sounds to me like a previous owner has altered wiring and something isn't quite touching.

Do the lights outside the car operate at all?

A faulty indicator stalk can sometimes cause problems as well. If you press the hazard switch and then move the stalk to left and right does anything change?
