blacktop tuning

just ordered meself a stage 3 head with a kent cam. ported inlet manifold and ported throotle body. Also orederd an ashley full exhaust system. All ive left to get at the minute is a manifold and a decat. just 2 questions.
Will i need a remap? ive read that some fast road cams are designed for unmodified engines with standard injection (ie piper)
secondly does anybody have an idea roughly how much power there will be?:p :p

Ryan 28th November 2007 23:18

you should get a remap to get the best out of the mods. although we cant say what bhp estimate until we know what cam.
kent do a few cam profiles, im guissing it may be a 270?

griff 28th November 2007 23:31

hmm yeah... i would go with a remap on a 270 cam, especially (sp) with the other mods to make it worth while.

jonny13_vtr 28th November 2007 23:33

im not too sure m8 ill send them an email and find out. im dont really know a lot about all that cam profile stuff. a fast road cam sounded spot on to me, but i suppose i better look in to it.

jonny13_vtr 28th November 2007 23:37

im nearly sure its a 276 profile

AliC 29th November 2007 10:02

Yea yuo will defo need a map to get the most outta the cam's!

jonny13_vtr 29th November 2007 12:03

Yeah welll ive spoke to them and its a kent pt11 276. they said not to bother with a remap but use a fse power boost valve instead to set the correct fueling

jonezy 29th November 2007 12:38

thats probably the most stupid piece of advice ive ever heard a tuner say

Andy72 29th November 2007 12:47

The FSE is just a fuel pressure regulator thats adjustable. You need one when swapping to say carbs to keep the pressure down but your standard one should be fine so i wouldnt bother.

You dont need a remap for those mods, money would be better spent at a rolling road setting the cam swings up properly etc. The next step i would swap to throttle bodies and at the same time a standalone ecu to map the whole lot up together.

Who's doing the headwork?

jonny13_vtr 29th November 2007 13:09

well the parts have been ordered from Highflowheads.com. I was surprised at them telling me that. But i have heard or other companies using a boost valve to enhance performance

and others just making the engine runner eber rich/lean and doing damage

jonny13_vtr 29th November 2007 17:12

I think ill see how it runs first without the remap or boost valve.
anybody have any ideas how much power there will be? its a kent pt11 276 cam, stage 3 gasflowed head, ported throttle body. ported inlet manifold an full exhaust system
