doing tappets wrong neeed help have no car
 
well my mate goes collage training to be a mechanic well he done my tappets using how the haynes manuel says to do it well put it back togher then started it the tapping is now louder havnt try driving it just incass it fucks up any one got a clue to what he might of done rong?

Did you adjust them when the engine was cold ?

if they are mechanical, the shims need to be put in the right place and you need to do the valves in order.
valve 1 inlet - valve 4 inlet
vavle 1 outlet - valve 4 outlet
valve 2 inlet - valve 3 inlet
valve 2 outlet - valve 3 outlet

sure thats how you do it, but the shims need to be put in the right ones, you need to feeler gauge each one

yeah left the bonnet open for 4 hours the enginge was stone cold
