When I had my services done in august last year Citroen told me that my brake pads were 50% worn at the front & 40% at the back… I have just spoken to my local Citroen branch and the bloke Said I will need my front brake pads changing for sure cos if the amount of miles iv done since me lasty Service… and my back ones he said might need doing… now I thought as my back are only 40% worn they shouldnt need changing… wat do u think?
Also wat do u think of this price…. £140 if all 4 need changing and £100 if only the front two need changing?
How much has it cost other people? I was gonna go to quick fit but iv heard bad stuff about the one here… Also I wud rather Citroen do it cos they know Saxo's of course!

barrett 10th May 2005 15:51

they probably do need replacing.

As for the back ones if they have say 10 - 20 left on them then i've always
just got them changed. Not worth the hassel bringing them back in to
get them done a few months later.

£140 sounds like a good price. My local garage (friends dad owns)
would have charged me £130 when i got mine done last ( i thik)

It's brake, not break.
Even I know that and I'm Dutch

Edit..... edit while you still can!!

"Crazy Dutch Ba**ted"

dont go to quick fit... theyre so so so shite! bugger your baby up! a recomended garage is best.... why not uprate the pads! its not expensive, go for black diamond predator pads, theyre really good i found, you may aswell get the rears changed aswell, keep it all balanced!

DevilDamo 10th May 2005 18:29

if they were 40% worn in august last year, then i would suggest they would need changing. citroen will tell you if they think they need changing. some garages change them just to get some money out of you.

Scott 10th May 2005 18:49

100 quid to change brake pads is absolutely shocking

DJ_Marky_Marc 10th May 2005 19:04

£100 is not shocking.... lets say the pads are £30 a set thats £60... and £40 p/h to fit them is a fair deal

Scott 10th May 2005 19:10

the £100 is for fronts only.

pads shouldnt be more than 20 quid. And thats a halfords 20 quid, you could get them even cheaper. And 1 hour labour absolute tops is 60 odd quid. Plus the fact a local garage would probably fit for half the labour costs. Even i changed my front pads in under an hour. So ill stick to my judgement of that price being an absolute rip off.

£60 is cheep.... its 2005 not 1805.. labor rates in the UK are still below what they should be and you guys moan about it when somone want to charge you £60...

and dont forget our old friend VAT......

the enginers rate at my local VW garage is £80 + VAT

Sean 10th May 2005 19:23

£100 for changing front pads is an absolute rip-off. Scott's right, pads from halfords are £20, plus a motor-trade book-time of 1hour to fit them is £50-60 maximum.

Edit: £80+vat for labour is extorsionate. even Arnold Clark up here (who i used to work for) are £50 max, and they're the biggest con artist known to man.

Scott 10th May 2005 19:26

your fucking right ill moan about labour charges. 40/60/80 quid an hour is an absolute disgrace especially when most mechanical jobs can be undertaken by people with no mechanical expertise and nothing more than a haynes manual. Being charged anything more than 20 quid labour to have your brake pads changed IMO is an absolute disgrace.

Sean 10th May 2005 19:29

go scott,go scott

Clare 10th May 2005 19:32

How Confussed am i now haha! Im gonna try another place to see wat they say hehe!

Think i might just have to wear a low cut top 2morrow

S9_DAN 10th May 2005 19:32

my pads cost me about £35 for the front and back and i fitted them myself, labour costs are a rip off and i try and avoid to pay them as often as i can!

Scott 10th May 2005 19:33

lol im not looking for a fight whatsoever nor am i looking to provoke anyone, im just expressing my opinion on a matter where Mr/s normal joe public get the arse ripped right out of them for very basic jobs

Clare 10th May 2005 19:40

I wish i knew someone that cud do them.... its not like i can get away with out them being done

Sean 10th May 2005 19:40

couldn't agree more Scott, and having worked for Arnold Clark, i avoid dealership garages at all costs, and i urged anyone to do the same.

nick_vts 10th May 2005 20:04

I got mine done for £70, that included front and rear pads and fitting
