Bleeding Coolant System - Yes I've Searched!!
 

Hey all

Just replaced my heater matrix and bleeding the system is a right pain in the ass!! Plus trying to do it without the header tank is just useless!!

Buying the tank costs £18 + going to Citroen to collect it is probs going to cost me like £25...

Does anyone know what Citroen charge to bleed the system for me? Probs wouldnt take them very long and it'd be done properly.. :p:p

mate you can use a milk bottle, cut the bottom of and fill it with water,

there are 3 bleed points one of left hand side rear of engine, 1 of right hand side of engine by your coolent sesnsors, and 1 on your rad,

aint hard to do. takes 30secs,

just open all the bleed vavles and fill the rad up when water starts coming out of the bleed holes close them that easy

I had to do this yest at the side of the road, not too painful of a job.

Once you've bled it, drive it for a few miles over different terrain and then bleed it again. - Should be fine then!.

Easy as;

The rads come with header tanks already fitted to them. You don't need an extension to fill it up. As stated above, it's dead easy.

How I do it: If the system / rad is empty, start filling up with coolant. When the rad appears full, open all 3 bleed points, and start the engine. Turn the heating on, but don't crank the fan up. Start filling up again until you see a constant stream of coolant coming out of the 1st bleed point, which is located on the top right of the rad. Lock this bleed point off, and continue filling until a constant stream comes out of the second bleed point, located on the coolant housing. Lock this off, and then repeat the process for the last bleed point which is located to the left of the inlet manifold. You might find you can still squeeze some more coolant in, so continue to do so if required. Then let the car idle until the fan kicks in. I would then take it for a quick spin and keep an eye on the coolant temp. If all seems well, let the engine cool down and check the level of coolant in the rad. It might need a teeny bit more coolant, but that's about it.

sometimes though if an air bubble is stuck it can be a mission to get out...

Got the problem sorted.. a guy I work with knows someone at the local Citroen garage. I just gave him a call and he will lend me the extra expansion tank.. and if I can get there for 11:30am on Sat morning he'll just bleed it for me..
