Planes

Is anyone else scared shitless or is it just me?

Never been on one, never want to go on one. The thought of someone else being in control and me having no say worries me. Plus ive seen vids of pilots fucking about in the cabin. Sooooooo many things to go wrong and lets face it, i cant fly.

Im ok on boats, i can swim.

My missus has been banging on about going on a decent holiday this year. Somewhere far away on a plane. We travel alot, but with me driving. I dont mind driving across the channel to spain etc but she wants to go somewhere were i cant drive. Arse

Anyone got over their fear?

frankie 30th April 2008 12:46

my auntie takes some shizzle, which makes you talk a lot lol, and cos your always yapping on, you forget your on a plane lol

Robb 30th April 2008 12:58

I think Sayer said something like there is usually 20+ problems with an average plane when its flying.

AdamW 30th April 2008 13:01

Cheers...I fly tommorow

Robb 30th April 2008 13:03

No drama.

If you crash this side of the pond you/the mangled plane will get taken to Farnborough Airport as thats where all crashes go. We can finally be together.

Bodvts 30th April 2008 13:04

LOL Rob, confidence boost??

Seriously tho you have nothing to worry about, take off is the best part imo, other than that its boring. :y: Have fun.

Love flying in one, start of your holiday!

I actually like the food as well

Bodvts 30th April 2008 13:23

just do it my old man was same until a day out thru work came up he was in ambulance service they sent him out on air sea rescue sea king he was bricking it. They even lowered him down on whinch (sp) onto a ship and picked him back up. Then by next morning he'd book a holiday flying

that makes me laugh, how far can you swim? im a strong as fook swimmer, but its hard as fook in the sea waves are also huge

VtsTom 30th April 2008 13:28

I swim across the wash at least twice a year, love swimming. Last charity event i did 29 miles. Granted i could not swim the length of the Atlantic but i could keep afloat pretty easily

AlexB 30th April 2008 13:30

its statistically safer to fly than drive

plus ive seen the care that goes into plans (i make parts for them)
you havent really got much to worry about

First Time I flew I was 10, and it was a 9hr flight from Gatwick to Olando International.
I wasn't scared instead I was ecsited about it, and on the way back I just slept the 9hrs.

The only thing I don't like too much is London Underground, because of 7/7.
I'm always suspicous of everyone!

Yeah on average a plane will have at least 7 things wrong with it.... they have around 17,000,000 parts on it so it's not too bad.

I'm terrified of flying for the simple fact I've seen and worked alongside the mongs that design these things.

ShaneVtr 1st May 2008 01:15

Just think of the place your going, its well worth bricking it for a couple of hours on the way to the airport, getting there about 4 hours early sitting about. Best bit is take off, bit of a buzz if your scared aswell.

When you come back it will be, meh wasnt that bad :)

Try and chillax, take your ipod (if you have one) as music and stuff is shit on planes.

When we went snowboarding we got the first flight after they had all been stopped due to storms.

Everyone I went with were frequent flyers and said that it was by far the worst turbulence they had ever encountered. It took about 20 minutes until we finishing climbing for the turbulence to stop. Loads of people were crying and stuff....

Chris 1st May 2008 09:19

Flying is actually the safest way to travel nowadays apparently!

I'm not scared of flying, but I did have a scary moment when I was coming back from Dublin last year.... Coming back towards Stansted we flew through a big storm cloud... the turbulance was awesome, it was really really bumpy and us 8 lads thought it was pretty funny....... until there was a f**king great big BANG!! and the cabin lights went out and our stomachs felt like they were up on the ceiling, there was loads of screaming and all us lads shut up...... after about 10-15 seconds the lights came back on and you could hear the engines starting back up again and that we was climbing again..... the Pilot spoke over the tanoy and said "Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen... you may have just heard a small bang... this was the plane being struck by lightning, which killed all the electrics and the engines, resulting in us falling out of the sky for a few hundred feet... we are now circling back round to try the desent again... we do apologies for the situation and will have you down on the ground safely as soon as possible!"......

45 mins later we touched down and everyone cheered.... never felt so relieved in my life!!

Chris :)

Hate it mate know how you feal, dispite people saying it will be fine etc, everyone who got on the 9/11 plane for instance says it will be fine and thousands of planes fly each day, but they were still unlucky,

I can't stand it, the longest ive done was Blackpool to london was 45 getting ona dn then off, i hated it, we had a shaky landing aswell everyone cheered when we landed as it wasn't right or something so really did put me off.

Im ok on boats but always seam to get the urge to jump of haha, although i can't swim like haha!

karlosavfc 1st May 2008 09:35

flying's quality, & as a few others have said its statistically safer than any other form of transport so its all good.

jamiemol 1st May 2008 18:45

used to enjoy it but a few years ago i saw a private jet crash on the bottom of the runway in birmingham not to keen now lol
