Worrying emails from banks

Had two emails in the past week regarding online bank account access with natwest and abbey national, both from the banks proper email addresses(Onlinebanking@natwest.co.uk & account.review@abbey.com)

Both emails seem dodgy as fuck though, and i haven't got bank accounts with either. Trying to work out if they are scam mails, or if some cunt has stolen my identity :panic:

A Bank will never email you mate - Never! They will only contact you through letter or if urgently by phone. All emails from banks are scams and are using the 'phishing' scam.

AlexR 30th April 2008 22:20

They're not getting any of my details that's for sure, but i'm wondering how they got this email address as it's my "secret" one that shouldn't be getting any spam mail :S

Sophie123 30th April 2008 22:21

my dad had 1 from abbey tonight. scam i think.

joemcevoy 30th April 2008 22:22

Still do not consider it even with "real" e-mail addresses. A guy i knew designed a program were you could send e-mails and have their email show up as something else. I used to pretend to send e-mails as a member of staff in my school

Barry123 30th April 2008 22:23

go to the bank in questions website... find a contact numero... ring and find outski.

coldo1987 30th April 2008 22:24

been getting a lot recently from diferent banks. dont bother to open them-just delete them

Danny 30th April 2008 22:27

aint there a way u can find out if the emails are scam or not

Chris 30th April 2008 22:28

I get these all the time.... they are Phishing emails.

You can either call the supposed bank that it has supposedly come from and tell them... they may ask you to send it to their Security department so that they can trace where it has come from and get the authorities on to it...

or

Just delete it, don't open it and especially don't click on any links or buttons that are included within the email.

Chris :)

AlexR 30th April 2008 23:02

Ta. Going to delete them.

Yates 30th April 2008 23:03

djmartin 30th April 2008 23:04

I just delete them as I know dam well my bank does not have my email address.

Luke 30th April 2008 23:06

Sick of these e-mails.

Since I got my Elite Car Detailing account, that's all I seem to get.

It's easy to spoof an email, If you use Opera you can do a fraud check on sites your not sure of.

When i get these emails i just fill them in with a bunch of f**k you's etc.

DJ_Kida 1st May 2008 08:00

Yep.

I've been getting these aswell.. Just delete them or report them, thats what i've been doing..

our lass gets them all time couple a day. She even got one from ebay other day she'd bought something fake off there and the seller got banned couple of days later an email came thru saying she had been banned for using that seller and to sign in thru the email will have been the seller wanting to get back selling.

EssexHoney 1st May 2008 08:57

I get them every now and then, its just someone trying to scam you i reckon!! You can always forward the emails to the actual banks and they do something or other with them then, not too sure what. Whenever i sign into my natwest online account it tells me if i ever receive dodgy emails then i should send it to them and i have once or twice!!
