Do i have to join up with them before a collection or do they make a one off collections if i was to give them details and payment?

just ring them and pay cash when they arrive at your door.

Make sure you've got paperwork with the company's details even give them a ring to make sure, and get a reciept no matter what!! K buddy don't get ripped off!

Ive always done an e-payment on their website. DHL or whoever really.

Go with a reputable company like parcelforce etc go on there site and av a look
