outside look for rust, damage etc,if its a vt model make sure it hasnt had a drum conversion and has disks on back.
when you test drive it,listen to the engine, you don't want excessive noise from tappets etc, when driving listen out for gearbox whining, crunchy gearshift etc.
Get the owner to drive so you can see how its been driven,if he bounces off the limiter you know what to do.just :homme: bye to it.

Full Service History is a must.
If over 75k or 4 years since last change, make sure cambelt has been done.
Play in Gears.
Panels been straight.
Warning Lights on Dashboard - do they all go out when started?
Check oil cap for signs of head gasket going.
Check water in radiator.

Probably a few more.

do all the lights come on the dash when the key is turned also, easy enough to remove a warning light bulb,

creamy goo in the oil gap (headgasket)
brakes
suspension
history
previous owners
blowing exhaust?
rust
damaged bodywork
look at the mot certificate and see what has been advised!!

make sure all electronics are 100% and make sure thsteering is smooth as PAS pumps are kinda weak on them.

smittytom 9th May 2008 23:27

clicking from the driveshafts on full lock.
Wheel bearing's too.

Pat_Vts 9th May 2008 23:29

check rear axle is str8... common problem bent rear axles one or both wheels will be / \

advise i would say is good because a axle costs 250ish includin labour

LSOfreak 9th May 2008 23:41

car is said to have a squeak noise from the driers side front wheel? can this be a wheel bearing / something expensive?

smittytom 9th May 2008 23:44

depends could be a bearing, driveshaft or something else. driveshafts make a sound under acceleration and turning normally just take it for a test drive and see what happens

If you see the wheel heading for a bush, and the drivers side scraping the floor.. i honestly wouldn't buy it.

Tupps 9th May 2008 23:46

Make sure it's not a corsa

End of the day mate your going to have to decide if you want it no one can say what what the sound is without hearing it/ good description of when it occurs.
Oh yeh check for blue smoke out the back too.
