High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

Does/has anybody ever done this? What were the results like?

I want to start losing weight again the the summer (fat weight) and HIIT 'apparently' gives great weight loss results (better than normal), reduces muscle mass loss and increases fitness more than regular cardio.. and obviously requires shorter workouts, which I like the sound of!

So, what do you reckon?

Also - another completely different question. I've got treadmills, elipitical trainer etc at home, but was considering joining the gym (virgin active) as it's just up the road.. I feeel like I mite be motivated to work out more at the gym, and stay there longer once I started opposed to doing it at home.. thoughts/opinions? Anyone ever done anything like this before? Want to do whatever will make me lose the most weight and ovvi don't want to waste money.

Cheers :y:

if you have the equipment to do what you require i wouldnt waste cash joining a place if you will not be getting the most out of it tbh.

as for intervals, i know of people who for example, run on the tread mill at a steady pace, then for the next 30 seconds turn the speed up, then chill for two minutes etc. meant to get the heart rate going if thats what you mean. never tried it myself but its not uncommon.

interval training is my bread and butter.

Burning fat occurs during lower intensity exercise when you are using the aerobic system, so dont go to much into an aneaerobic training routine

Well according to everything on the net its best for burning fat? Apparently it 'tricks' your body and instead of burning your carb store it goes straight to fat.. Don't know if its true but everyone seems to be backing it..?

Just tried it now, only did 30 second intense, then 2 minute slower rest in between, 5 times, absolutely shattered... Felt a bit dizzy and sick at the end, good stuff. :y: :ill:

You probably felt dizzy and sick becuase you are unfit, good on you for pushing yourself till you felt crap, next time go until you puke ;)

Just keep doing it mate,
But as you stop feeling like its working you hard, make the 'rest' times shorter, and the sprint times longer ...
You will see and feel the effect.
It is endurance for your heart and lungs, and also increasing the amount of blood your heart can pump, while helping you lose weight.
