URGENT! help needed.
Right, just had the worst day.
Problem; Rocker cover bolt has snapped off, end result I can't tighten the rocker cover which = oil leak. It's on a 2000 vtr 90bhp silver top engine. Now since the screw that the bolt goes onto is attached to the engine under the rocker cover how do I go about replacing it, what needs replacing and how much is it going to cost :wall: I'll post some pictures up Asap. |
How about drilling it out, sleeve the hole and cut in a new thread that would sort the problem!

You want a heli coil kit

There about £25. All you do is drill the snaped studd out then screw a heli coil in(makes a new thred)
|
![]() As you can see, it's snapped below the cover. Any idea where I can get a heli coil then mate? |
Cromwells tools
|
And that well deffo sort the above problem?

The heli coil won't work without a new sleeve going in otherwise the bolt will need changing and the rocker cover will need drilling also the gasket will need trimming. Too much hassle when as I said before drill it out drop a sleeve in then use the heli-coil to re-thread!

if you take the cover off, surely you should be able to get a pair of pliers around the end of the bolt and twist it out!?!?!

remove the rocker cover u should be able to onloosen it with sum mole grips and then replace it , failing that get a set of stud extractors (easy-outs) simply drill a small hole in the centre of the stud (use a centre punch to help) and screw in the easy-out , it has an oppisite thread an if u apply pressure while screwing it in anti-clockwise it should unscrew , a used the same technic on ma exhaust manifold studs a few days ago worked a treat :y:
