saxo just keeps overheating :S

my saxo vts just keeps over heating and it doing my head in- only had car bout a week and today just realised the radiator init is the the proper on as its smaller then my mates 106 gti , and by looking at it you can see where the top up bottle lid goes and its no where near it-
could it be the reason for heating and my tepmerature gauge is mostly always on about 3rd of the way up ?

tobomoto 29th July 2008 01:46

have you checked the thermostat is ok? or if there is an airlock?

adam19 29th July 2008 01:50

well at 1st i looked over it with my mate ( apprentice mechanic) and thought it could of been the thermostat so we decided to take it out - and the was saying about an airlock so he done what he had to do to get rid of that if it had one- but theres hardly any change with it, still heats up 3rd of the way- on way home just now it was only on half way but think thats down to the rain keeping it a tad bit cooler , now not sure what it could be- could be the rad or mayb the water pump ? what you think ? also someone mentioned the head gasket could of gone ??

MrHouston 29th July 2008 01:51

I had this problem when I got my sax

The radiator cap was the wrong one, went to my local car parts center, got a universal one for £5, sorted my problem

craigy_87 29th July 2008 01:51

has it gone into the red?

adam19 29th July 2008 01:54

yeah it touched the red earlier - so i just turnt car off and let it cool - but not gone into red after that

tobomoto 29th July 2008 01:55

i would of thought if it was the water pump it would overheat within a few inutes. i may be wrong though.

adam19 29th July 2008 01:57

if i sit there on tick over the temperature will just climb, if im doing like 30/40 mph it just sits on 3rd :S - mm

tobomoto 29th July 2008 02:00

as said, try the rad cap first. if that cures it, great. if not it sounds like a head gasket. :wall:

tobomoto 29th July 2008 02:03

just had a thought. is it your heater matrix losing water? try putting a bit of hose between the 2 engine points, bleed the system and see what happens. that happened on mine. first time it was the heater matrix, second time it was a loose clip and the pipe was leaking.

adam19 29th July 2008 02:04

ok thanks u lot :D , mm i never would of thought the rad cap could make it over heat :S - proves how much i no lol

adam19 29th July 2008 02:05

thats if its that that is

tobomoto 29th July 2008 02:08

try changing the cap and what i said. might cost you about a tenner but it eliminates those as the problem and its probably cheaper than getting a head pressure check.

adam19 29th July 2008 02:10

yeah il try the cap tomoz and will let you know what happens lol, if it still presist then gonna go citroen garage - they charge a bomb i know - but it be the only way to see whats wrong with it if it nt cap

tobomoto 29th July 2008 02:13

citroen garage?!!!!! aaargh!!!!!!

adam19 29th July 2008 02:17

:S will cost arm and a leg wnt it ? lol , i do know someone who has got a garage but he doesnt like working on saxo so longs me off lol ,

tobomoto 29th July 2008 02:20

will you be taking it to helix in chelmsford? if so then it probably will cost a bit. just make sure they dont pinch your ecu cover...

adam19 29th July 2008 02:22

did they pinch yours ?

there a place in harlow called "M'O'T'S R UZ" could take it there or there a citroen garage near it- they all i know- i dont really know chelmsford or ne places there tbh m8

tobomoto 29th July 2008 02:26

lets just say that it went in for its second service and a couple of days later i refilled the screenwash and noticed no ecu cover...
depending on how rich your feeling, give them a try. might be cheaper than a citroen garage.

adam19 29th July 2008 02:30

yea il try them m8 thanks :D , went into citroen before to buy something for my old mk 1 sax 1.4 , and at first i thought they was cheap till 3 days later i found out i could of got it for 40 pound cheaper :S lol
