Does the 80gb PS3.....
Thinking of buying an 80gb PS3 in the next few weeks as my JVC dvd player is freezing when I press play film on the menu screen on half of my dvds. Just wondered if the 80bg will retain the SACD feature from the 60gb and will any PS2 games will play on it as I've heard none will play on this version and no software is available now or in the near future to allow them to play.
:panic: |
can you still get them, i thought it was only the 40s now?
|
Yeah they stopped making the 80gb's because they were soooo faulty.
|
arnt you two above thinkin of the old 60gb consoles the 80gb is the new one
|
Nah the 80gb's are released tomorrow, they stopped making the 60 gig ones.
EDIT: Craigy beat me to it. GAY!!!!! |

oh, just found this link, no SACD no Backwards compatibility and none of the two on the future 160gb release... Sucks, better wait for a cheap 60gb to crop up!!!!!!!!! |
Aww right my bad :y:
|
Just bought a 2nd hand 60gb on ebay for £320, gonna by a fan too after reading some of the reviews.
|
The 60gb models are very loud and get very hot..Hence why they were discontinued..
I now have a 40gb instead of the 60gb..Seems better built, also is silent..Never heard the fan on it ever.. I had to buy one of the bolt on fans for the 60gb because when watching films late at night with the volume not so loud i couldnt hear the TV..Was terrible.. As for PS2 playback, i played a couple of PS2 game son the 60gb..Was absolutley shite..Worse than PS2 graphics..i think thats why the newer PS3's dont support the playback.. |
how does 5.1 work with a ps3? Do you need to run a wire to a dvd with 5.1 system?
|
40 Gig ftw

I do! I have two 5.1 dvd players and I don't think one has an optical input. The only input on both is an RCA input. Gaaaah, got to buy a AV receiver. |
Reading on further, av receiver would need an hdmi input for better sound and picture over an optical input. Crikey there are a few good av amps out there but most seem to have a sub preout that would mean buying another bloody product.
Currently looking at a Onkyo TX-SR606 for the AV receiver |
im sure the 20gb version did too but there very rare to get your hands on one

:clapping: 60 gb being discontinued had nothing to do with build quality. It was purely a business decision to keep production costs down as sony were losing money on every console they sold The 40gb and 80 gb have no ps2 bc, no memory card readers + only 2 usb slots. If anything when the 40gb came out there were quite a few people who had them fail soon after purchase |
