Being the wrong side of the camera at an athletics track

Usually its me having the pics taken when at work but sadly an injury has meant im out for a number of weeks so instead went along to support my club and have a play with the camera.

Had to shoot into the sun a couple of times due to the events being ran/was cloudy on and off etc.. which was a bit poo but o well... its something different to MOS.

My horizons they be effected by some beer lol!

All shot with 30D + 70-200 F2.8IS L

Viper 17th May 2009 01:27

not bad

first two look a big dark though

Ryan 17th May 2009 01:31

Dont look dark on my laptop screen yo, I was having to ramp up the shutter more than I wanted to because of shooting into the fecking sun.

Viper 17th May 2009 01:46

fair enough

Only if im not racing and the event is near me, this was at st marys, so 30seconds walk from my door.

Thought it was best to go along and support the club seeing as I cant bring in the massive points haul i usually do :D

Viper 17th May 2009 01:56

yeah makes sense!

you always seem to be injured though!

You tune an engine and it will break more than a non tuned one. Sadly ive picked up some silly injuries (2 operations due to coaches neglegence for example), but others just come with the job, when you push the body hard day in day out it will sometimes break down.

Viper 17th May 2009 02:24

safer to be a lazy cunt then :D (fucking tennis..)

Mike-VTR 17th May 2009 12:38

dont tune your body then, just become belimic to save weight.

take off unessersary parts like your penis and nipples.

but yeah first two are abit dark, i like the changing of the baton picture although its really sharp and its hard to see the ergency in the photo, but thats captured on their faces anyway so....

black dudes looks like hes having an orgasm

Mike-VTR 17th May 2009 12:44

this is how you should capture a running shot.

fast enough to see there faces but slow enough captures the feeling of the speed

they only come in size 15.......only ribbing kidda - a little too bright for my liking.

Shellz 17th May 2009 21:12

Cool pictures! :D

Love the Orange trianers!! :y:

nath106 17th May 2009 21:22

some good shots there dude, looks like the shutter speed was pretty spot on

different screens will vary the brightness of the pics, have you used any touching up on them?

may be worth a quick quto colour/contrast/levels or manually adjust the curves?

worth a shot

Ryan 17th May 2009 21:37

I dont have PS on this laptop. PPing done was batch sharpen and upload. I never really do anything to my pics lol!

Its been discussed on another forum about problems noted with the image, from checking the histogram. Shutter was slightly high I felt but it was because the shot looked blown out on the screen and i didnt bother with using a histogram to check this (big mistake with the 30D sceen) Histogram would have shown otherwise and on a calibrated monitor the guys have been able to show exactly what problems were found.

Ryan 17th May 2009 21:46

ps the orange spikes are ghey, its all about what I have to race in :D

I was at 200mm, and didnt want to crop when PPing just because thought id post them not cropped to much. I need to get a nice 1.4x

I need to get a calibrated monitor though as a couple of people said they are a touch dark... Still im happy with the sharpness/shots them selves considering I hate going near an athletics track when im not about to put my spikes on and twat a tasty 400H.

you don't need a calibrated monitor... histogram is your friend. learn it, use it, abuse it.

I put up a thread about calibration software which you can use off your own eye... will get you about 80% there in terms of calibration-ness. It's all I use.

Ryan 20th May 2009 17:05

HAHA i posted that one because it was funny at how pissed the horizon is.. (id had a few beers Lol)

I need to start using the histogram propperly tbh, you know what its like at times when you are just shooting randomly for no given purpose you end up being lazy etc....

It was peaking in the shadows quite alot though everything is really bunched up on the far left of the hisotgram.

Someone on another forum has said that I should allways shoot sports in AV mode, which I really dont agree with tbh.
