joshg_7 21st May 2009 17:27

im not waiting for the paint to dry though im waiting for primer to dry and that drys quicker doesnt it?

Whiskerzz 21st May 2009 17:38

generally if your going to sand the primer down its recommended you leave it 24hrs before sanding then doing a coat of anything else

Lloydie 21st May 2009 17:46

i waited about 12 hours for the primer and paint to dry, and they came out shit. so had to do it again.... dnt rush it or u will reget it and there look fucking shit. But if u wana rush then be pepared in a few weeks how shit there look.

cmh369 21st May 2009 18:22

If somethings worth doing, it's worth doing right.

Leave them for 24 hours trust me :y:

joshg_7 21st May 2009 18:46

yeah im leaving them now lol

blackvtr08 21st May 2009 18:57

Put the primer on in thin coats(slightly wet), give it half hour, knock them off with some 800 wet clean the water off then straight on with the base(thin coats again), let it flash off between coats then once you have done the last coat just keep touching the masking until the paint on there has dried then straight on with the laquer. Thats based on you using aerosols.

frankie 21st May 2009 18:59

id say a few hours if that whack them in the sun....

i done my vtr alloys in a day.

3 coats ofr primer, 4 of paint, 3 of lacuer....

tomo2k8 21st May 2009 18:59

yh leave them mate better results im doing mine now, so when yours is done put some pics up and ill post sum pics to :y:

blackvtr08 21st May 2009 19:03

If you leave the basecoat for hours and hours, then straight on with the laquer it will peel off over time

If you put them outside all the airborn dust will get in & ruin the finish, let them dry indoors in a dry well ventilated space.:y:

what do you mean by this?

blackvtr08 21st May 2009 20:23

The laquer wont key to the base coat properly, which means if you get a stone chip ar any other damage the laquer will peel off(peeling laquer). Its where the laquer flakes off from the basecoat colour. Have even seen it when people have jet washed there car and on the edge of a panel it took aload of laquer off, was a freshly painted quarter panel but the painter didnt laquer it until the next morning.
If you are going to leave the base coat over night or for a long period(dont know why you would?) then either scotch the base coat up or nib it off with some 1200 then do a drop coat of base then on with the laquer.

Btw, it helps if your leaving them overnight to keep them in a warm place. E.G in the kitchen or utlity room (if u have one) just for the night so the paint drys better and doesnt get cold like if they were left in the garage.

joshg_7 21st May 2009 20:28

as above havent painted ive only primed not painting til tomorrow now

Lloydie 21st May 2009 20:29

Yes primer then, still best to be in a warm place bud :)
