how easy to drop a vtr in a 1.4 mk2 furio 2000 plate

my 2000 saxo furio cut out on me i took it to the garage and he thinks it could be the ecu. or the chip on the key. he said it is main dealers job. im wondering if i can just buy a new ecu plug in and go or if i do hve to go to the main dealers and pay for a new ecu they said 3-400 pounds so would it just be easier to swap it for a vtr engine and how hard is this to do. please get bck to me as soon as possible.

So this is an immobiliser problem? Just get an unlocked ECU - if that was the problem, then it's solved.

If its a single plug ecu i have a reconditioned unlocuked unit straight out of my vtr, i will sell it to you if you wish, PM me

unlocked ecu's

a diagnostic check was done and its coming back as no problems thoe.

if its the chip the easiest and cheapest way to fix it is to just get the ecu unlocked. ryanmt does it for £65

ecu us in the lft side of the engine, silver rectangle with wiring plugs going into it. you unplug it, send it to be unlocked and plug it in when it gets back and this bypasses the immobiliser. think you need to uplug the immobiliser box too but thats easy

bu to answer your original question a conversion should be pretty easy. i put a vts engine in my vtr in no time. actually i took the engine back out this morning to check all the wiring and put the atarter motor on, took me an hour to remove and refit

is your vtr engine from a mk1 or mk2 or does it really matter wht mk when you are transplating. and do you not need to change the gearbox etc.

LeeM 6th June 2009 17:43

mines a mk2. i think yours is a mk2 isnt it? probably 3 plug ecu which means a 3 plug vtr engine would be the easiest for a conversion.

LeeM 6th June 2009 17:44

sorry, gearbox doesnt need to be changed as theyre all identical apart from ratio's, i'd stick with a 1.4 box over a vtr box as vtr boxes have the longest ratios

furio09 6th June 2009 17:54

yeah mine is a mk2. and failing the unlocked ecu does not solve my problem wht else could be causing it? or should i take it to the main dealers for a diagnosis at first.?

LeeM 6th June 2009 17:57

im not that clued up on ecu and immobiliser stuff to be honest. as far as that is concerned when i did my conversion i just plugged everythig in and prayed it worked lol
