Not sure for a BMC direct replacement, but try and do this :y:

Use samco hoses etc

SteveWC 18th June 2009 16:24

that looks fullbore! i bet thats a mint cold air supply

JamesR 18th June 2009 16:26

The above is the best air feed i have EVER seen! amazing work lol

saxo_90 18th June 2009 16:32

did you have to use a mesh or something to stop stones and large debris getting sucked into the pipework?

VtsTom 18th June 2009 16:34

Doesnt matter if it does get debris in there, thats what the filter is for.

I just bought a 1m length of ducting from Merlin motorsport and butchered an old fog light into a cold air feed for mine.

saxo_90 18th June 2009 16:39

yeah but will you not have to clean it out at some point?

jimbo06 18th June 2009 16:40

I got a 1m length from larkspeed, wasnt very much either iirc

VtsTom 18th June 2009 16:43

Yea but its easy to take apart and clean. Might have the odd leaf or feather but not much.

Think my 3"m was £18 or something

cj_99 18th June 2009 16:46

that has to be the best cold air feed i have ever seen on a saxo just lol's

evans1089 18th June 2009 17:24

maybe the best set up but doesn't increase air flow etc as its the ecu that allows the amount of air in at any time..
If you wanted to increased air flow then thats what turbos are for..

So once you reach a certain point, no more air will help? As the ECU only lets a certain ammount in?

Mochachino 18th June 2009 18:08

It isnt getting more air in, but providing a better supply or cooler air.

sparky771 18th June 2009 23:14

cool air is denser so contains more oxygen and the ecu puts more fuel in to compensate for the extra air which gets in because of the less restricting ducting on aftermarket induction kits

so:

More oxygen=Bigger bangs=More power (not really noticable on small engines)

i prefer just a panel filter in the standerd air box, and i have had a bmc

It's still better to use a cold air feed into the standard box with panel filter anyway. It's less restrictive than the orginal pipe and will stay cooler because it get's there faster (due to less restrictions).
