Just thought id pop out to Halfords, but half way there 2 blue flashing lights behind me

Asks me why am i not wearing my seat belt?
Even though he could see clearly that i had harnesses on. Then he was going on about how illegal they are n sh!t.

£30 Fine he gave me.

Is this true? "Illegal" or "Not"

What made me laugh slightly was that he was a roundish guy and lyin on his back seat was a pack of dohnuts from asda no joke i neally pissed myself there and then

Yates 9th January 2006 15:56

didnt think that they were....but never know

hesslevtr 9th January 2006 15:58

i think they are legal but have to be upto a certain standard (fia i think)
plus you have to make sure they are bolted down securly

please correct me if i am wrong as i have harneses to

Flimbo 9th January 2006 16:00

i've had mine in for two years and no problems.

got through two MOT's with them as well.
i've taken my seatbelts out aswell.

but i'm sure they are legal. when i bought mine, i was told that as long as you could undo the buckle with one hand they are ok.

saxx 9th January 2006 16:01

if they pass an mot i would have thought they would have been legal

ask in halfrauds or somewhere like that they should know!

Chris_F 9th January 2006 16:08

the copper just kept sayin they are racing harnesses arnt they?

i said yes?

He said well this is a road not a race track.

I was sayin it stated clearly on the website tht they are road legal.

And his reply to that was well is that website the police. haha wot a tosser.

But on my ticket he hasnt wrote illegal harnesses or wrong type, he has put not wearing seat belt!!!!

Graeme 9th January 2006 16:09

Flimbo 9th January 2006 16:11

question that mate. he is wrong. 99.9% sure of it.

thats stupid. think of the cars that come from the factory with harnesses. they are legal.

saxo_2004 9th January 2006 16:15

im more than sure they are legal but it depends on which ones u have.

Chris_F 9th January 2006 16:15

Chris_F 9th January 2006 16:16

i have the luke 3 point harness, got them off gsmotorsport

saxo_2004 9th January 2006 16:19

same as mine they are road legal, Phone GS motorsports and i think they can give a code to prove they are legal for an MOT.

Im sure the GS motorsports saxo has these harnesses too.

DICO_VTS 9th January 2006 17:55

Harnesses are totally legal and he has no power in the law to do you for no having a seat belt on as long as they were done up and fixed to the car correctly. harnesses are illegal though if fixed to the rear seat belt mounts, unless you have found some was in keeping the rear belts and fixing the harnesses...i.e longer fixing bolts. If the rearseats are still in then you have to have working rear belts to pass an MOT.

Scott 9th January 2006 18:14

they are legal exige 240r comes with 4 points as standard. They would fail an MOT if not fixed in correctly and they would fail depending on the buckle. If they have the standard push buckle then game on your legal. If its the aircraft pilot style quick release your sent off the park as they are not legal for road use

liamk15 9th January 2006 19:28

was it a traffic cop or a normal plod who pulled you????

Luke 10th January 2006 03:14

hes well done u there mate. I know its only £30 but id take it to court for your pride.
