RRoD Has struck again!

Well the GPU solder joints have cracked and it needs to be reflowed gargh how annoying, off to buy a heat gun and more thermal paste. Anyone interested in a tutorial on how to do it?

Life goes on I guess, and so does a reflow of the solder underneath the chip!

id be interested in a guide of some sort as ive got to do mine as microsoft dont want to know as i dont have a receipt. just got the bits to do it but am i right in thinking that i have to let it overheat once ive modded it?

-Alex- 1st November 2009 17:23

Yeah, I'll do a couple of guides since she's apart. I kinda lied in the title, no RRoD but GPU is fucked and dies after 3 mins. Should be fixed now. Just cooked it!

just a quick question: what can i use to get the old paste off? will meths or white spirit be ok?

-Alex- 1st November 2009 17:53

I used nail varnish remover.

I've tried everything and can only get mine to work for about 5 mins before it freezes, then I have to bake it again. I'm just gonna sell it on ebay as faulty and hopefully get about £30 out of it, already bought a new console anyway.

ebay it is then.
