1.1 Gearbox ?

Well i have a Mk2 vtr, and ive seen what the little 1.1 gearboxes can do in vtr's as one of my mates on here has one in his but i was just wondering can it be a mk1 1.1 gearbox or would it have to be a mk2 gearbox to go into my vtr? Also if any one has one let me know!
