Rough Idle with cat cams 708 on unmapped ecu
Ok I just finished my VTS conversion and put catcams 708 in the car, the idle is fairly lumpy. if i dont keep my foot on the accelerator revving it sometimes the the engine feels like it wants to give up (lol) and sometimes does. is this normal behavior when you have unmapped ecu running these cams?
dont know if this could be down to my lambda sensor was damaged and my new 1 isn't fitted yet or could it be the cams need timing up again, as when the cams were put in the engine i didnt have an ecu to start it |
without a remap, yea the engine will sound like its struggling to idle. after remap, it will be better (and alot more power will be harnessed)
|
What were the cams timed too?
Shouldnt be 'excessively' bad tbh.... |
im not sure what the cams were timed to to be honest. what should they be timed to?also do think it could idle bad due to having no lamba sensor?
|
if the are at the standard marks it wil idle lumpy, and some time cut out.

my ph3 where very lumpy on idle. if you retard the timing 2 degree's on the inlet cam and standard mark on the exhaust cam it shouldnt idle as lumpy, thats what newman told me to do with mine and it worked. stops it cutting out as much too. just had my remap done on tuesday and my car wasnt running much more than standard before the map. running 161.5bhp now. my car is running without a lambda.

The ecu needs time to adjust and learn that the car has cams, mines was the same after my conversion. mines was fine after a few days of driving, also I noticed if you disconnect the battery for a while then reconnect it the car will go back to square one and will cut out till it learns the cams again. But also timing will have to be good.

just have to sort the timing out during mapping.
|
you should be running a Lambda though.
I take it you are going to get it remapped? |
yer without a lambda it wil not correct fueling! wil run just not rite. as it wil throw fuel to keep it going, as it think the a fault.w

Lambda Sensor will be going on tomorow hopefully that'll make it idle a little better, as for my ECU I will put the predator on but I only got a the stabndard 16v basemap uploaded, gunna have to see if I can get a hold of Andy or anyone who knows how to upload other maps. As I do have other maps as well on my email and laptop at home.
Wouldn't lie im a little suprised the Lambda could cause the car to not idle correctly as a few people say theres is fine with no Lambda |
Why would you want to run without a lambda anyway?

It's almost the only sensor that tells the engine if it's running right, and whether corrections are working or not. |
My lambda sensor got damaged, thats why its running without one right now, but I do have a new one but that is beign fitted tomorow
|
bad idle will be down to how its been timed up as said, i wouldnt drive a car or even run it without a lambda in, risking unecessary strains/wear or the engine components
