furio power or vtr?
basically im picking a vtr engine and box and next week? is it worth taking the vtr parts and bolting them to the furio lump? or should i rebuild the vtr engine and dump some cams in it and have it mapped?
cheers guys :) |

if iam honest mate id go vtr if your picking it up... you can keep it out the car clean it up make it look nice/run well
if you think about the money ive spent and iam only on 90bhp.... you could start at 90... |
Drop the vtr lump in ;)
|
drop the vtr in as it is, no point rebuilding it and easy enough to jus put in.
Meanwhile get a vts engine and rebuilt that if you want to take things further. You might be happy with the vtr engine, im more than happy with my R engine :) |
cheers for the help guys and ive decided the r lump will be dropped in next summer :) as that gives me a year to build it up :) any tips on what other parts i should change on the r lump as i want to do cams, and a few other bits ?
also only gonna stick the vtr engine in as i want to be different, everyone these days just drops a s lump in, but i personally think the vtr is better :D |

ive just brought a vtr lump for my quiksilver as they have the same engine as the furio. im just getting it fitted as i have 1 months warrenty on the engine so want get it in see if it is a dencet one whilst its still in warenty. im keeping my 1.4 gearbox (should be quicker accelaration that vtr aswell :D) new quicksilver clutch timing belt kit including rollers and tensioner water pump engine oil+oil filter sparkplugs gearbox oil fuel filter new coolant and power steering fluid get the valve clearancies adjusted and set up. if ur rebuilding the enigine i would change all the parts in the above list plus, headgasket, camsaft seals, valve seals, rocker cover gakset, sump gasket, head bolts (as they are strech fit). then undo the 2 bolts on the big eads and check the big ends and push the piston up from underneith and check all the piston rings, if any cracks or scoring then these will neede changing. if not then i would just refit. if you do want to cam the engine then this is the best time to do it as the cam goes into the head from the bottom up so means the head needs to come off the block so new headgasket ect. if you do cam the engine then remember your going to need a veriner pully unless you find a cam that will run on standard timing but u want a veriner puly so u can get it set up on a rolling road and get the timing adjusted to make the most bhp. if i was you i would clean the engine up get it fitted and do a compesion test on the engine to check the headgasket. if it passes then just keep abit aside for if it does go on you. give it a good service including getting the valves set up right. then add a decent exhaust manifold and airfilter and jobs a good one. you might be able to run the vtr engine on your furio ecu if you have the vtr injectors i will soon be able to tell you 100% as im hopefully having mine put in next weekend |
hope all goes well mate :)
|
me too mate :) i still love furio power though the little 1.4's are amazing, but its time to dump something bigger in, due to doing to many moterway miles :(
|
vtr with cam , stainless manifold and exhaust panel filter drilled airbox, and maybe a chip should be good
|
Vtr lump will be heavier ;)
|
furio 840kg and the vtr bein 920 ;)
furio got an ally block? |
Quote:
the furio comes with 165,55,14 steel wheels and the vtr with 185,55,14 alloys so thats probs an extra 10-20kg with all for and the spare. then the brakes are vented so they weigh more and the calipers are bigger so they weigh more aswell. are the anti roll bar and torsion bars thicker? do rear discs, calipers and pads weigh more than drums? does the vtr have a bigger radiator? all these little things could add up to the difference in weight. |
1.1,furios and vtrs all have the same rad :)
i just wondered if the furio had an ally block? think somone said it before |
I think your right sam, they do have an ally block, bear in mind the vtr's have the disc beam axle aswell, basicly with all the other bits you said that basicly adds up all the weight :)
|
id say discs are lighter than drums to be honest
|
okay..shh.. i'll go back in my corner now haha, i actually forgot about that lol
|
haha just that drums you have the case and all the internals etc :)

wouldnt bother with camming a vtr engine and mapping it, be easier and cheaper to just drop a vts in it
