which engine??

hey, i got a 96 mk1 vtr, no pics at present. but i keep getting engine problems with it, at the moment i got a lot of vibration which i have been advised how to sort out, but just yesterday i noticed i have a horrible rattling sound from engine bay mainly when car is cold.

now to be honest i have had enough of this engine and just want to swap it for another, hopefully more reliable one, because as far as i can tell the guy i bought it off pushed it too far for too long.

i was considering a vts conversion, but i also had the idea of a pug 1.9 gti engine from a 205. but i really have no clue what would fit.
so if anyone can tell me a few engines that are a straight swap, or a couple that would need minor work for replacing the crappy one i got i would be really greatful, as im just confused now goin in circles gettin no answers to my questions. cheers :y:

the engine prob would fit but i think ud be better off fittin an vts lump as altho the 205 1.9gti lump has a bigger cappacity i think power wise its similar output to the 1.6 16v(which would weigh less)

ah yes :y: thanks mate. for the time being until i can do that, can anyone tell me hwy i have slight rattling under moderate acceleration in 3rd-5th gear, i have already read through other posts about pinking etc, and it is doing that slightly aswell, but only mainly when its warmer do i get power lag. any help greatly appreciated

i wouldnt fit a 206 gti engine they are only 10bhp extra over a vts engine and they would be very old and unless you buy a re built one it would have lost a few bhp over the years, so for a lot let effort just fit the vts engine ;)

Much easier to fit a vts engine, it's actually an easy job
