where does your temp gauge sit

Hi all just want to no where your temp gauge sit's say in town driving. As mine sit's at the bottom and will only move up after sitting in traffic. This is after driving for about 20 mins or more. Fan kicks in at 1/2 way. But when I get moving again it will go back down to the bottom slowly as it should. So I am thinking there is something wrong would i be right. Also it take ages for the heater to get hot. I drove 15miles home last night i no it was cold but my heaters didn't warm up till i nearly got home and my temp gauge never moved from the bottom . Any ideas. It's a w reg vtr.

VTR usually sit between 1/2 & 3/4 on the temp gauge when sat in traffic, when you move again they usually drop down to just below half, maybe just on half :y:

about half

or just abouve half.

So not right at the bottom then after 20 mins of driving. What would cause this? Would the thermostat being stuck open cause this also would this affect the heater blowers?

VTR - just below or at 1/2

As stated should be close to half on temp after normal driving.
Could potentially be thermo staying fully open, or possibly an air lock in coolant system.

During this and last Winter, my temp sat at the bottom on the white line when I was doing 60+ on A-roads.

Then when I'd hit traffic, it'd rise up to 1/2-3/4.

I thought it was a problem with the thermostat too last year, but once the weather started warming up, so did the car + temp. gauge.

have you checked your coolant level?

Glad i saw this posted mine is a 1.4 furio and it sometimes sits just under half way sometimes it goes a tinyyy bit over half way but when i start moving it sits half way lol if all tht makes sense :P hope this is normal

Stevo123 26th November 2010 23:22

Change thermostat to resolve your overcooling issue. Should sit just under half normal use and in traffic just over half - just over half is when fan cuts in.

Bare in mind some guages/sender units are more accurate than others so we will see some differences from car to car.

Usually about half way in the summer then shoots up to 3/4 in traffic

At the moment it doesnt go above half even in traffic, something to do with the cold weather im thinking lol

I have this same problem on my 1.4 VTS.It take time to go close to 1/2 ,and if goes over 1/2 fan starts.Which sensor is used to control temp gauge is it on engine block or thermostat housing?

dturbo 4th August 2019 23:11

Must be stuck thermostat, stuck open. My VTS had a seized, open stat when I bought it. Gauge barely moved. new stat, problem solved.

The temp gauges are ALL different, they have no scale on them and cannot be relied on for a temp reading. Anything below the red line is "normal". this is in the handbook.

I've got 3 sets of clocks and the temp indicator is in different positions for the same temp reading.

If you want an accurate reading, fit an aftermarket gauge.
