clutch kits

well im replacing my gearbox on the 18th and thinking of replacing the clutch

my car is a saxo vtr 2000 and i do NOT race it only every day journeys i do put my foot down but will a cheaper clutch be good enough or?

Cammy 30th November 2010 14:57

Ugh

If im right, Helix clutches on saxo's are terrible, although we never get complaints on german cars that use them!

LuK clutches are fine as there O/E spec i beleive and can be had for about £50

SAM-S44MDS- 30th November 2010 15:05

Valeo is the best clutch to use. Failing that LUK clutches are also fine

Stay well away from transmech clutches.

Mcwaffle 30th November 2010 15:06

luk stands for?

Jungle 30th November 2010 15:13

LUK is the name of a clutch company lol, there clutches are good enough i used to have one.

As already said do not use transmech, they are cheap but mine lasted all of 3 days before it exploded lol

transmech are quality lol

vtr_chris90 30th November 2010 18:51

Luk put the oe clutches in there box unless they make them o/e for that vehicle
Valeo is the oe clutch so either of them will be best option

Lol transmech are awefull, they are reconditioned clutches iirc if it's the right ones I'm thinking of anyway

we always use helix no problem, we have used stock size single plates to over 350bhp, and twin plates over 500bhp.

you hear horror stories with lots of products, but i have never experienced any first hand with helix, nor have any of my customers worldwide.

for your application a standard valeo or sachs (or any reputable OE replacement brand) will be fine.

a common modification for slight fast road use, is to use a stock clutch cover, but add a cerametallic sprung friction plate from helix. this retains stock pedal pressure, but gives the clutch a far greater friction coefficient and better consistancy up to higher heat ranges. they are more aggressive in their clutch take up, but you soon get used to them, cerametallic plates can also take a little bit of slip too.

we sell helix friction plates in 4 and 6 paddle, solid or sprung centre (sprung recommended for road use)
