pistons for 1720cc vtr

hiya all i have just acuired a vtr block that has been bored out to 1720cc i was wondering if eny one has eny idea what pistons would fit without having to go for specially made ones i am looking at running this with a big valve head ported an polished with newman ph 3s i just want to get it running and see what it goes like before spending mega money on it

Edit sorry read it wrong. I cant think of any engine off hand that uses 81.7mm pistons. Though I know a few people have used Rover pistons in large bore TU engines in the past. They have to use modified conrods to fit though. If you search for this you may get lucky.

There is a company called Drake's in Bradford which should be able to machine you some.
They sorted my friend's Mini out when he had that overbored.

ive been given a warrenty with this block although i have herd that they have sucsessfully been taken to 1780cc i have got to admit i was a bit sceptical at first all i say is its gotta be worth a try thats why im trying to do the pistons on a budget

Sparco_Tom 1st January 2011 12:03

well dont spend too much money for it to go bang

LeeM 2nd January 2011 09:30

ive seen them stroked to 1795, rarely bored

Sparco_Tom 2nd January 2011 09:51

There is a very good reason for them being stroked instead

stevo67 2nd January 2011 10:15

I wish you good luck i`m very curious to see this unfold.

Steve.

probably not the best idea....I would rather spend a bit more and have it last rather than buy cheap and have to do it more than once.

im using this as a winter project an being out of work atmo means i cant afford to spend money i already have the head an cams also ecu my missus has said that if i contact bogg brouthers then she will pay for a custom manifold to fit a set of gsxr 1100 carbs if all goes to plan then it should bu somthing intresting in the futur;)

blackie_2k5 2nd January 2011 18:53

there are much cheaper and better set ups then bogg brothers, and you want bodies not carbs

spudders 2nd January 2011 20:18

i ment bodies my brain wernt workin was havin a conv bowt webber dcoe carbs off ford pinto at same time as writin this so sorry to all

spudders 2nd January 2011 20:19

also who else other than bogg brothers ???

welshpug 2nd January 2011 20:32

Colin satchell.

evensteven 2nd January 2011 20:35

You won't stroke to a genuine 1790cc without being over bored also.

I very much doubt you have near on 82mm pistons fitted also. Have you measured the block yet?
